CONSUMPTION PROFILE FOR MOBILE MEDIA
Managing a content item in a media management platform includes creating a consumption profile for the content item, the consumption profile including attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed and a profile of the attributes of networks on which the content item can be delivered, integrating attributes of the content item with the consumption profile in the media management platform using a processor, and configuring the content item for delivery using the media management platform based on the consumption profile and integrated attributes of the content item.
1 . A method of managing a content item in a media management platform, comprising:
creating a consumption profile for the content item, the consumption profile including attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed and a profile of the attributes of networks on which the content item can be delivered;
integrating attributes of the content item with the consumption profile in the media management platform using a processor; and
configuring the content item for delivery using the media management platform based on the consumption profile and integrated attributes of the content item.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption profile functions as an adapter mechanism enabling a plurality of functions of the media management platform.
3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the consumption profile further includes a profile of the attributes of a targeted user of the content.
4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the consumption profile is used to match parameters of content to parameters of a device.
5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the consumption profile is used to match a content item to a delivery network.
6 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the consumption profile is used to match a content item to a delivery time.
7 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the consumption profile is used to target delivery of content.
8 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the consumption profile is used to determine an encoding of the content.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption profile includes content information regarding a type and source of the content.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption profile impacts content discovery.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption profile includes at least one of location information and location intelligence.
12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the at least one of location information and location intelligence is used to target content.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the content is an advertisement.
14 . The method of claim 1 wherein the consumption profile impacts seamless switching among at least two of unicast, multicast and broadcast content.
15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the consumption profile impacts advanced encoding and transcoding.
16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein content playback pause markers are maintained as part of the consumption profile.
17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein configuring the content item includes impacting the encoding of the content item.
18 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising modifying the consumption profile based on data about usage of the content item.
19 . A method of managing a content item in a media management platform, comprising:
taking attributes of a content item accessible to at least one processor of the media management platform;
taking attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed;
taking attributes of networks on which the content item can be delivered;
producing a consumption profile for the content item with a processor by integrating the attributes of a content item with the attributes of devices and the attributes of networks; and
configuring the content item for delivery using the media management platform based on the consumption profile.
20 . A method of managing a content item in a media management platform, comprising:
accessing a consumption profile for a content item with a processor of the media management platform, the consumption profile comprising attributes of devices on which the content item can be accessed and a profile of the attributes of networks on which the content item can be delivered;
taking attributes of the content item; and
configuring the content item for delivery using the processor based on the consumption profile and attributes of the content item.
