Abstract

A notification is received at a workload that indicates that a compliance policy update is available for the workload at a compliance policy management system. A synchronization manager on the workload pulls the compliance policy update from the compliance policy management system and deploys it to the workload.

Claims (18)

1. A synchronization system, comprising:

a notification receiver configured to receive notifications that compliance policy updates are available at a compliance policy management system, for synchronization to a first workload of a plurality of different workloads, wherein each compliance policy update is defined according to a unified schema that is consistent across the plurality of different workloads and includes a common set of rules, that are common for the plurality of different workloads; wherein the notifications are stored in a notification queue and a policy synchronization manager configured to: obtain the notifications from the notification queue; create instances of a plurality of synchronization components based on the notifications; batch the notifications from the notification queue into batches;

send the batches to the plurality of synchronization components for processing in parallel to obtain the compliance policy updates, wherein each of the synchronization components receives a respective one of the batches and pulls a compliance policy update from the compliance policy management system based on the notifications in the respective batch; and deploy the compliance policy updates to the first workload, using a computer processor, by synchronizing the common set of rules of each compliance policy update to workload data of the first workload.

2. The synchronization system of claim 1 wherein the policy synchronization manager comprises: a policy create, read, update, delete (CRUD) manager configured to make calls on a workload policy store to commit the compliance policy updates to the workload policy store.

3. The synchronization system of claim 2 wherein each synchronization component is configured to: in response to receiving the notifications in the respective batch, send a pull request to the compliance policy management system to obtain a compliance policy update,

and call the policy CRUD manager with the obtained compliance policy update.

4. The synchronization system of claim 3 , wherein the synchronization manager comprises: the notification queue, and wherein the notification receiver is configured to store the received notifications in the notification queue based on a notification urgency assigned to the notifications by the compliance policy management system.

5. The synchronization system of claim 4 wherein the synchronization manager further comprises: a status component configured to send a status indicator to the compliance policy management system, the status indicator indicating a status of deploying compliance policy updates to the workload.

6. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving, at a first workload of a plurality of different workloads, notifications that a plurality of compliance policy updates are available from a compliance policy management system for deployment to the first workload, wherein each compliance policy update is defined according to a unified schema that is consistent across the plurality of different workloads and includes a common set of rules, that are common for the plurality of different workloads; storing the received notifications in a notification queue; obtaining a set of next available notifications from the notification queue by grouping notifications from the notification queue into a batch; based on the set of next available notifications in the batch, sending a pull request from the first workload to the compliance policy management system to obtain a set of compliance policy updates corresponding to the set of next available notifications; and deploying the set of compliance policy updates by synchronizing the common set of rules of each compliance policy update in the set to the first workload.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 6 and further comprising: reporting a status of deployment of the set of compliance policy updates to the compliance policy management system.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 6 wherein receiving the notifications comprises: storing the notifications in the notification queue according to a priority assigned to the notifications by the compliance policy management system.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 8 wherein receiving the notifications further comprises: storing the notifications in a persistent queue according to the priority.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 6 wherein deploying the set of compliance policy updates to the workload comprises: calling a policy create, read, update, delete (CRUD) manager with the compliance policy updates; and committing the compliance policy updates to a workload policy store with the policy CRUD manager.

11. A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving a compliance policy update definition, at a compliance policy management system, the compliance policy update definition defining a compliance policy update for deployment to a plurality of different workloads, wherein the compliance policy update includes a common set of rules, that are common for the plurality of different workloads; sending a notification to each of the plurality of different workloads indicating that the compliance policy update is available at the compliance policy management system for the plurality of different workloads; receiving, a pull request for the compliance policy update from each of the plurality of different workloads; and in response to each pull request from the plurality of different workloads, sending a unified representation of the compliance policy update to the corresponding workload, the unified representation being a same representation of the compliance policy update, regardless of which of the plurality of different workloads it is sent to.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 wherein receiving the compliance policy update definition comprises: receiving a set of user definition inputs at the compliance policy management system defining the compliance policy update.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 11 and further comprising: receiving a status indicator from each of the different corresponding workloads indicative of a status of deployment of the compliance policy update to a corresponding workload; and displaying a status based on the received status indicators.
