Abstract

Provided is an apparatus that includes an inverse scanning unit configured to an inverse scan pattern to the quantized coefficient components to generate a quantized block, an inverse quantization unit configured to generate a quantization parameter and to inverse-quantize the quantized block to generate a transformed block, an inter prediction unit configured to derive motion information and to generate a prediction block, and an adder configured to generate a reconstructed block. The transform unit is larger than a 4×4 block, each of the quantized coefficient components are inversely scanned in the unit of subset to generate multiple subsets, and the multiple subsets are inversely scanned to generate the quantized block. Accordingly, the coding efficiency of the motion information is improved by including various motion vector candidates. Also, the amount of coding bits of the residual block is reduced by applying diagonal scan pattern to each subset.

Claims (16)

1. An apparatus of decoding video data, comprising:

an entropy decoder that extracts quantized coefficient components and inter prediction information from a received bit stream;

an inverse scanner that applies an inverse scan pattern to the quantized coefficient components to generate a quantized block having a size of a transform unit;

an inverse quantizer that generates a quantization parameter and that inverse-quantizes the quantized block to generate a transformed block;

an inverse transformer that generates a residual block by inverse-transforming the transformed block;

an inter prediction block generator that derives motion information and that generates a prediction block; and

an adder configured to generate a reconstructed block using the residual block and the prediction block,

wherein when the transformer is larger than a 4×4 block, each of the quantized coefficient components are inversely scanned in a unit of subset to generate multiple subsets, and the multiple subsets are inversely scanned according to a diagonal scan to generate the quantized block,

when at least two of a left quantization parameter, an above quantization parameter and a previous quantization parameter are available, the quantization parameter is generated by adding a differential quantization parameter and an average of two quantization parameters determined according to a predetermined order among the left quantization parameter, the above quantization parameter and the previous quantization parameter,

wherein, when the left quantization parameter is not available, the quantization parameter is generated by adding an average of the above and the previous quantization parameters and the differential quantization parameter, and

wherein when the left and above quantization parameters are unavailable, a sum of the previous quantization parameter and the differential quantization parameter is set as the quantization parameter.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the quantized coefficient components are significant flags, coefficient signs and coefficient levels.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the subset is a 4×4 block including 16 transform coefficients.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the quantization parameter is generated per quantization unit and a minimum size of the quantization unit is adjusted per picture.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the minimum size of the quantization unit is derived using a parameter specifying the depth of between the minimum size of the quantization unit and a largest coding unit (LCU) size.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the differential quantization parameter is generated by restoring a bin string indicating an absolute value of the differential quantization parameter and a bin indicating a sign of the differential quantization parameter.
