COLOR GRADING PREVIEW METHOD AND APPARATUS
A method for previewing a color graded image commences by first obtaining color metadata corresponding to a sample image appearance selected by a user from among a set of different sample image appearances, each sample image appearance having associated color metadata. The color metadata corresponding to the selected sample image appearance is stored with an image file the user has selected for color grading. The color metadata corresponding to the selected sample image appearance is applied to the image file to generate a preview of the image file, as it would appear when color graded with the color metadata.
1 . A method for image preview with enhanced color grading, comprising the steps of:
obtaining color metadata corresponding to a sample image appearance selected by a user from among a set of different sample image appearances, each having corresponding color metadata;
storing with an image file the color metadata corresponding to the selected sample image appearance;
applying to the image file the color metadata corresponding to the selected sample image appearance to generate a preview of the image file.
2 . The method according to claim 1 including the step of modifying the color metadata corresponding to the sample image appearance in response to user input.
3 . The method according to claim 2 wherein the color metadata is modified in response to user selection of at least one value from a curve control look-up table.
4 . The method according to claim 2 wherein the color metadata is modified in response to user selection of at least one value from a color keying look-up table.
5 . The method according to claim 2 wherein the color metadata is modified in response to user selection of at least one value from a color correction decision list.
6 . Apparatus for image preview with enhanced color grading, comprising,
a first file system for storing a set of sample image appearances, each having corresponding color metadata; and
a second file system containing at least one audio visual file;
processor means for (1) downloading from the first file system a sample image appearance selected by a user, (2) for storing with an image file the color metadata corresponding to the selected sample image appearance; and (3) applying to the image file the color metadata corresponding to the selected sample image appearance to generate a preview of the image file.
7 . The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the processor means modifies the color metadata corresponding to the sample image appearance in response to user input.
8 . The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the processor means modifies the color metadata corresponding to the sample image appearance in response to user selection of at least one value from a curve control look-up table.
9 . The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the processor means modifies the color metadata corresponding to the sample image appearance in response to user selection of at least one value from a color keying look-up table.
10 . The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the processor means modifies the color metadata corresponding to the sample image appearance in response to user selection of at least one value from a color correction decision list.
