Abstract

A data processing apparatus and a data processing method which enable provision of an LDPC code that achieves good error-rate performance. An LDPC encoding unit performs encoding using an LDPC code having a code length of 64800 bits and a code rate of 18/30, 19/30, 20/30, 21/30, 22/30, or 23/30. The LDPC code includes information bits and parity bits, and a parity check matrix H is composed of an information matrix portion corresponding to the information bits of the LDPC code, and a parity matrix portion corresponding to the parity bits. The information matrix portion of the parity check matrix H is represented by a parity check matrix initial value table that shows positions of elements of 1 in the information matrix portion in units of 360 columns. The apparatus and method may be applied to LDPC encoding and LDPC decoding.

Claims (1053)

1 . A data processing apparatus comprising:

an encoding unit configured to encode information bits into an LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code having a code length of 64800 bits and a code rate of 18/30 on the basis of a parity check matrix of the LDPC code, wherein

the LDPC code includes information bits and parity bits,

the parity check matrix includes an information matrix portion corresponding to the information bits and a parity matrix portion corresponding to the parity bits,

the information matrix portion is represented by a parity check matrix initial value table, and

the parity check matrix initial value table is a table showing positions of elements of 1 in the information matrix portion in units of 360 columns, including

2 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

where a row of the parity check matrix initial value table is represented by i and a parity length of the LDPC code is represented by M,

a {2+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix is a column obtained by cyclically shifting a {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix, in which positions of elements of 1 are represented in the parity check matrix initial value table, downward by q, where q is equal to M/360.

3 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein

for the {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix,

an i-th row of the parity check matrix initial value table represents a row number of an element of 1 in the {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix, and

for each of the {2+360×(i−1)}-th to (360×i)-th columns, which are columns other than the {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix,

a row number H w-j of an element of 1 in a w-th column of the parity check matrix, which is a column other than the {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix, is represented by equation H w-j =mod {h i,j +mod((w−1),360)×M/360, M),

where h i,j denotes a value in the i-th row and a j-th column of the parity check matrix initial value table, and H w-j denotes a row number of a j-th element of 1 in the w-th column of the parity check matrix H.

4 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein q is 72.

5 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a parity interleaving unit configured to interleave only parity bits in code bits of the LDPC code.

6 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a column twist interleaving unit configured to perform column twist interleaving on the LDPC code by shifting code bits of the LDPC code in a column direction and storing the shifted code bits.

7 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a permutation unit configured to permute code bits of the LDPC code to replace the code bits of the LDPC code with symbol bits of a symbol corresponding to one of a certain number of constellation points defined by a certain digital modulation scheme.

8 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein

the permutation unit permutes the code bits that are stored in a column direction and that are read in a row direction.

9 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the parity check matrix is a parity check matrix that does not have cycle 4 .

10 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the parity check matrix is a parity check matrix of an LDPC code belonging to an ensemble of LDPC codes having a performance threshold less than or equal to a certain value, the performance threshold being an E b /N 0 at which a BER begins to drop and being detected using multi-edge type density evolution.

11 . A data processing method comprising:

an encoding step of encoding information bits into an LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code having a code length of 64800 bits and a code rate of 18/30 on the basis of a parity check matrix of the LDPC code, wherein

the LDPC code includes information bits and parity bits,

the parity check matrix includes an information matrix portion corresponding to the information bits and a parity matrix portion corresponding to the parity bits,

the information matrix portion is represented by a parity check matrix initial value table, and

the parity check matrix initial value table is a table showing positions of elements of 1 in the information matrix portion in units of 360 columns, including

22 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 21 , wherein

where a row of the parity check matrix initial value table is represented by i and a parity length of the LDPC code is represented by M,

a {2+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix is a column obtained by cyclically shifting a {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix, in which positions of elements of 1 are represented in the parity check matrix initial value table, downward by q, where q is equal to M/360.

23 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 22 , wherein

for the {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix,

an i-th row of the parity check matrix initial value table represents a row number of an element of 1 in the {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix, and

for each of the {2+360×(i−1)}-th to (360×i)-th columns, which are columns other than the {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix,

a row number H w-j of an element of 1 in a w-th column of the parity check matrix, which is a column other than the {1+360×(i−1)}-th column of the parity check matrix, is represented by equation H w-j =mod {h i,j +mod((w−1),360)×M/360, M),

where h i,j denotes a value in the i-th row and a j-th column of the parity check matrix initial value table, and H w-j denotes a row number of a j-th element of 1 in the w-th column of the parity check matrix H.

24 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 22 , wherein q is 72.

25 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 21 , further comprising:

a column twist deinterleaving unit configured to perform column twist deinterleaving on the LDPC code to restore code bits of the LDPC code to an original order in a case where column twist interleaving has been performed on the LDPC code by shifting the code bits the LDPC code in a column direction and storing the shifted code bits.

26 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 21 , further comprising:

an inverse permutation unit configured to perform inverse permutation processing on the LDPC code, in a case where permutation processing has been performed on the LDPC code to replace code bits of the LDPC code with symbol bits of a symbol corresponding to one of a certain number of constellation points defined by a certain digital modulation scheme, to restore the code bits whose positions have been replaced with the symbol bits to original positions.

27 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 26 , wherein

the inverse permutation unit performs inverse permutation processing to restore the code bits that are stored in a row direction and that are read in a column direction to original positions.

28 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 21 , wherein

the parity check matrix is a parity check matrix that does not have cycle 4 .

29 . The data processing apparatus according to claim 21 , wherein

the parity check matrix is a parity check matrix of an LDPC code belonging to an ensemble of LDPC codes having a performance threshold less than or equal to a certain value, the performance threshold being an E b /N 0 at which a BER begins to drop and being detected using multi-edge type density evolution.

30 . A data processing method comprising:

a decoding step of decoding an LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code having a code length of 64800 bits and a code rate of 18/30 on the basis of a parity check matrix of the LDPC code, wherein

the LDPC code includes information bits and parity bits,

the parity check matrix includes an information matrix portion corresponding to the information bits and a parity matrix portion corresponding to the parity bits,

the information matrix portion is represented by a parity check matrix initial value table, and

the parity check matrix initial value table is a table showing positions of elements of 1 in the information matrix portion in units of 360 columns, including
