Abstract

The objective of the present invention is to provide a control device for an engine that enables precise control of the equivalence ratio. The system from the fuel injection amount to the output from a LAF sensor is modeled as an injection amount-sensor output model by means of a model equation containing model parameters and a lag coefficient. The system from the equivalence ratio to the LAF sensor output is modeled as a port equivalence ratio-sensor output model by means of a model equation containing the lag coefficient. The control device is equipped with: a feedback-use identifier that successively identifies values for the model parameters; a LAF lag compensation-use identifier that successively identifies values for the lag coefficient; and a stoichiometric driving mode controller that determines the value of a fuel injection amount.

1. A control device of an internal combustion engine to control an equivalence ratio of an air-fuel mixture of the internal combustion engine, comprising:

a fuel injection valve which injects fuel to a cylinder of the internal combustion engine;

an exhaust gas sensor which detects an equivalence ratio of exhaust gas of the internal combustion engine;

a first identifying unit which models a system from a fuel injection amount of the fuel injection valve to an output of the exhaust gas sensor, as an injection amount-sensor output model with a first model formula including first model parameters and a second model formula including a second model parameter, and which successively identifies values of the first model parameters;

a second identifying unit which models a system from an output value of the first model formula to the output of the exhaust gas sensor as a port equivalence ratio-sensor output model with the second model formula, and which successively identifies a value of the second model parameter based on the output of the exhaust gas sensor;

a controller which determines a value of the fuel injection amount of the fuel injection valve based on the first model parameters; and

an electronic control unit which drives the fuel injection valve so that the fuel injection amount determined by the controller is realized,

wherein the first model formula outputs an equivalence ratio of the exhaust gas in an exhaust port of the internal combustion engine based on the fuel injection amount and the first model parameters,

wherein the second model formula outputs the output of the exhaust gas sensor based on the equivalence ratio of the exhaust port and the second parameter,

wherein the first identifying unit updates the values of the first model parameters while the internal combustion engine is under a specific first operating condition and does not update the values of the first model parameters while the internal combustion engine is not under the first operating condition, and

wherein the second identifying unit updates the value of the second model parameter while the internal combustion engine is under a second operating condition of which range is wider than that of the first operating condition.

2. The control device of an internal combustion engine according to claim 1 ,

wherein the second identifying unit updates the value of the second model parameter at least during variation of the output of the exhaust gas sensor.

3. The control device of an internal combustion engine according to claim 1 , further comprising: an abnormality determining unit which determines abnormality of the exhaust gas sensor owing to comparison between the value of the second model parameter identified by the second identifying unit and a predetermined threshold value for abnormality determination,

wherein the second model parameter is a parameter regarding a detection delay characteristic of the exhaust gas sensor.

4. The control device of an internal combustion engine according to claim 1 , wherein the first identifying unit includes:

a sensor output estimation operation unit that calculates an estimated value of the output of the exhaust gas sensor with the fuel injection amount as an input, according to the first model formula and the second model formula of the injection amount-sensor output model including the first model parameters and the second model parameter; and

an identification operation unit that identifies values of the first model parameters so as to minimize error between the estimated value and the output of the exhaust gas sensor.

5. The control device of an internal combustion engine according to claim 1 , wherein the second model parameter is a parameter related to a detection delay characteristic of the exhaust gas sensor, and

wherein the first identifying unit includes:

a delay operation unit that performs delay calculation characterized by the second model parameter on the fuel injection amount;

an identification operation unit that identifies values of the first model parameters so as to minimize error between the estimated value and the output of the exhaust gas sensor.

6. The control device of an internal combustion engine according to claim 2 , further comprising: an abnormality determining unit which determines abnormality of the exhaust gas sensor owing to comparison between the value of the second model parameter identified by the second identifying unit and a predetermined threshold value for abnormality determination,

wherein the second model parameter is a parameter regarding a detection delay characteristic of the exhaust gas sensor.

7. The control device of an internal combustion engine according to claim 2 , wherein the first identifying unit includes:

a sensor output estimation operation unit that calculates an estimated value of the output of the exhaust gas sensor with the fuel injection amount as an input, according to the first model formula and the second model formula of the injection amount-sensor output model including the first model parameters and the second model parameter; and

an identification operation unit that identifies values of the first model parameters so as to minimize error between the estimated value and the output of the exhaust gas sensor.

8. The control device of an internal combustion engine according to claim 2 , wherein the second model parameter is a parameter related to a detection delay characteristic of the exhaust gas sensor, and
