Abstract

An electronic vapor provision device comprising a power cell and a vaporizer, wherein the vaporizer comprises a heater and a heater support, wherein one or more gaps are provided between the heater and the heater support.

Claims (20)

1. An electronic vapor provision device comprising a power cell and a vaporizer, the vaporizer including a heater and a heater support configured to support the heater, the heater being disposed on an outer surface of the heater support; wherein the heater is a heating coil having a circular cross-section, and the heater support is a rigid porous ceramic material; wherein the heater and the heater support form a heating rod such that the heater support is substantially in contact with the heating coil to maintain the shape of the heating coil, and wherein the heater support defines a plurality of depressions or apertures which result in a plurality of gaps arranged between the heating coil and the heater support such that, at the plurality of depressions or apertures, the heater support is not in substantial contact with the coil and such that a liquid in the ceramic support can be wicked therefrom and gathered and/or stored in the plurality of gaps for vaporization by the heater.

2. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein the heating coil is coiled around the heater support.

3. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein the vaporizer defines a vaporization cavity configured such that in use the vaporization cavity is a negative pressure region.

4. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 3 , wherein at least part of the heater is inside the vaporization cavity.

5. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein the electronic vapor provision device further comprises a mouthpiece section, and the vaporizer is part of the mouthpiece section.

6. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein the heater support has at least one side channel disposed substantially lengthwise along the heater support.

7. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 6 , wherein the heater support comprises more than one side channel disposed lengthwise along the heater support and the side channels are distributed substantially evenly around the heater support.

8. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein the heater support has a pitted surface.

9. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein a cross-sectional shape of the heater support is substantially a polygon.

10. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein a cross-sectional shape of the heater support is substantially an ellipse.

11. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein a cross-sectional shape of the heater support is substantially equivalent to three overlapping circles joined together.

12. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein a cross-sectional shape of the heater support is substantially a cross.

13. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 12 , wherein the cross has 4 arms or 8 arms.

14. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , wherein the heater is wrapped around the heater support.

15. The electronic vapor provision device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a liquid store;

a wick configured to wick liquid from the liquid store to the heater for vaporizing the liquid; and

an outlet for vaporized liquid from the heater;

wherein the power cell is configured to supply power to the heater.

16. A vaporizer configured for use with an electronic vapor provision device having a power cell, the vaporizer comprising a heater and a heater support configured to support the heater, the heater being disposed on an outer surface of the heater support; wherein the heater is a heating coil having a circular cross-section and the heater support is a rigid porous ceramic material, wherein the heater and the heater support form a heating rod such that the heater support is substantially in contact with the heating coil to maintain the shape of the heating coil; and wherein the heater support defines a plurality of depressions or apertures which result in a plurality of gaps arranged between the heating coil and the heater support such that, at the plurality of depressions or apertures, the heater support is not in substantial contact with the coil and such that a liquid in the ceramic support can be wicked therefrom and gathered and/or stored in the plurality of gaps for vaporization by the heater.
