Wound dressing and method of treatment
Embodiments disclosed herein are directed to negative pressure treatment systems and wound dressing systems, apparatuses, and methods that may be used for the treatment of wounds. In particular, some embodiments are directed to improved wound dressings comprising an obscuring layer that may hide fluid contained therein. Some embodiments may further comprise one or more viewing windows disposed therethrough so as to enable monitoring or examination of fluids contained therein.
1. A wound dressing comprising:
an acquisition distribution layer;
an absorbent layer over the acquisition distribution layer;
a material layer positioned over the absorbent layer to at least partially visually mask fluid absorbed by the absorbent layer;
a backing layer above the material layer;
a fluidic connector coupled to the backing layer, the fluidic connector configured to connect the backing layer to a source of negative pressure; and
a visual indicator positioned beneath the fluidic connector and contiguous with the fluidic connector when the wound dressing is under negative pressure, wherein the visual indicator enables visibility of fluid absorbed beneath the fluidic connector from above the fluidic connector;
wherein the acquisition distribution layer is configured to horizontally wick the fluid as the fluid is absorbed upward through the wound dressing.
2. The wound dressing of claim 1 , wherein the acquisition distribution layer comprises a plurality of fibers, and a majority of the fibers span a distance perpendicular to a thickness of the acquisition distribution layer that is greater than the thickness of the acquisition distribution layer.

The wound dressing of claim 1 , further comprising a wound contact layer positioned below the acquisition distribution layer, wherein the wound contact layer is configured to adhere to healthy skin surrounding a wound when covered by the wound dressing, and wherein the wound contact layer is configured to pass fluid to the acquisition distribution layer through at least one aperture.
4. The wound dressing of claim 1 , wherein the visual indicator comprises a viewing window.
5. The wound dressing of claim 4 , wherein the viewing window is located in an obscuring layer.
6. The wound dressing of claim 1 , wherein the fluidic connector comprises a transparent film layer.
