Abstract

Described herein are UV curable coating comprising: an acrylate component a photoinitiator, an amine synergist, and an abrasive; along with methods of making and using same.

Claims (48)

1 . A UV curable coating comprising:

from about 65 wt. % to about 85 wt. % of an acrylate component;

from about 0.1 wt. % to about 5 wt. % of a photoinitiator;

from about 0.1 wt. % to about 5 wt. % of an amine synergist; and

from about 1 wt. % to about 15 wt. % of an abrasive.

2 . The coating of claim 1 , wherein the acrylate component comprises an acrylate selected from a polyester acrylate; an epoxy acrylate; a silicone acrylate; or a combination of two or more thereof.

3 .- 4 . (canceled)

5 . The coating of claim 1 , further comprising from about 1 wt. % to about 10 wt. % of a lubricant.

6 .- 7 . (canceled)

8 . The coating of claim 1 , comprising from about 70 wt. % to about 82 wt. %, of the acrylate component.

9 . (canceled)

10 . The coating of claim 1 , comprising from 2 wt. % to 3 wt. %, of the amine synergist.

11 . (canceled)

12 . The coating of claim 1 , further comprising from about 0.1 wt. % to about 3 wt. % of a flattening agent.

13 . (canceled)

14 . The coating of claim 1 , further comprising from about 0.1 wt. % to about 1 wt. % of a surfactant.

15 . A flooring product comprising:

a substrate; and

a UV curable coating comprising:

from about 65 wt. % to about 85 wt. % of an acrylate component;

from about 0.1 wt. % to about 5 wt. % of a photoinitiator;

from about 0.1 wt. % to about 5 wt. % of an amine synergist; and

from about 1 wt. % to about 15 wt. % of an abrasive;

wherein the coating is applied to a major surface of the flooring product.

16 . (canceled)

17 . The product of claim 15 , wherein the acrylate component comprises an acrylate selected from a polyester acrylate; an epoxy acrylate; a silicone acrylate; or a combination of two or more thereof.

18 .- 19 . (canceled)

20 . The product of claim 15 , wherein the coating further comprises from about 1 wt. % to about 10 wt. % of a lubricant.

21 .- 23 . (canceled)

24 . The product of claim 15 , wherein the coating comprises from about 75 wt. % to 80 wt. %, of the acrylate component.

25 . The product of claim 15 , wherein the coating comprises from 2 wt. % to 3 wt. %, of the amine synergist.

26 . (canceled)

27 . The product of claim 15 , wherein the coating further comprises from about 0.1 wt. % to about 3 wt. % of a flattening agent.

28 . The product of claim 27 , wherein the coating comprises from about 3 wt. % to about 5 wt. %, of the abrasive.

29 . A method of improving the surface performance properties of a flooring product comprising applying to the major surface of a substrate, a UV curable coating comprising:

from about 65 wt. % to about 85 wt. % of an acrylate component:

from about 0.1 wt. % to about 5 wt. % of a photoinitiator;

from about 0.1 wt. % to about 5 wt. % of an amine synergist; and

from about 1 wt. % to about 15 wt. % of an abrasive;

and exposing the coated substrate to at least one radiation source.

30 .- 34 . (canceled)

35 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the coating is applied to the substrate in an amount sufficient to provide a wet thickness of from about 0.5 to about 2 mm.

36 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the coating is applied to the substrate in an amount sufficient to provide a wet thickness of about 2 mm.

37 . The method of claim 29 , wherein the coating is applied to the substrate in an amount sufficient to provide a wet thickness of about 1 mil.

38 . (canceled)

39 . The method of any one of claim 29 , wherein the coated substrate is exposed to an infrared radiation source; an ultraviolet radiation source; or a combination thereof.

40 . (canceled)

41 . The method of claim 39 , wherein the ultraviolet radiation source is selected from a UVA radiation source; a UVB radiation source; a UVC radiation source; and combination of two or more thereof.
