View Patent ↗The present disclosure provides biophotonic compositions and methods useful in phototherapy. In particular, the biophotonic compositions of the present disclosure comprise at least two xanthene dyes. The biophotonic compositions and the method of the disclosure are useful for promoting wound healing and skin rejuvenation, as well as treating acne and other skin conditions.
1. A biophotonic composition for topical application to a target tissue, the biophotonic composition comprising a first xanthene dye and at least one other xanthene dye, wherein the first xanthene dye is Eosin Y and is present in the biophotonic composition at a concentration of between about 0.5 mg/mL and about 1 mg/mL; and wherein the at least one other xanthene dye is present in the biophotonic composition at a concentration of between about 0.001% and about 0.5% per weight of the biophotonic composition.
2. The biophotonic composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one other xanthene dye is selected from the group consisting of Fluorescein and Rose Bengal.
3. The biophotonic composition of claim 1 , wherein activation by light results in a cascade of energy transfer between Eosin Y and the at least one other xanthene dye.
4. The biophotonic composition of claim 1 , wherein Eosin Y absorbs at a wavelength in the range of the visible spectrum.
5. The biophotonic composition of claim 1 , wherein Eosin Y absorbs at a wavelength of between about 400-600 nm.
6. The biophotonic composition of claim 1 , wherein the at least one other xanthene dye absorbs at a wavelength that is relatively longer than that of Eosin Y within the range of between about 10-100 nm.
7. The biophotonic composition of claim 1 , wherein Eosin Y and the at least one other xanthene dye are present in the biophotonic composition at a concentration of between about 0.001-0.1% or between about 0.001-0.01% per weight of the biophotonic composition.
8. A method for biophotonic treatment of a skin disorder comprising:
topically applying a biophotonic composition to a target tissue, the composition comprising Eosin Y present in the biophotonic composition at a concentration of between about 0.5 mg/mL and about 1 mg/mL and at least one other xanthene dye; and
illuminating said biophotonic composition with light having a wavelength that overlaps with an absorption spectrum of Eosin Y, wherein the at least one other xanthene dye is selected from the group consisting of Fluorescein and Rose Bengal, and wherein Eosin Y and the at least one other xanthene dye are present in the biophotonic composition at a concentration of between about 0.001% and about 0.5% per weight of the biophotonic composition.
9. The method of claim 8 , wherein said biophotonic composition promotes collagen synthesis.
10. The method of claim 8 , wherein said biophotonic composition reduces inflammation.
11. The method of claim 8 , wherein said biophotonic composition reduces the formation of scar tissue.
12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the biophotonic composition is illuminated for a period of at least 3 minutes.
13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the application of light results in a cascade of energy transfer between the chromophores.
14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the cascade of energy transfer does not result in tissue damage.
15. The method of claim 8 , wherein Eosin Y dye absorbs at a wavelength of between about 200-600 nm.
16. The method of claim 8 , wherein Eosin Y and the at least one other xanthene dye are present in an amount of between about 0.01-0.5%, between about 0.001-0.1%, or between about 0.001-0.01% per weight of the biophotonic composition.
