Abstract

A method includes a protected social entity is determined based on one or more user inputs, and data on one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity is monitored. A risk to the protected social entity is determined based on monitoring the data on the one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity. The risk management data is provided to a user.

Claims (82)

1 . A method for providing a risk management platform comprising:

determining, based on one or more user inputs, a protected social entity;

monitoring, by one or more processors, data on one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity;

determining, based on monitoring the data on the one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity, a risk to the protected social entity; and

providing risk management data to a user.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the risk is associated with another social entity.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the other social entity is an impersonator of the protected social entity.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the other social entity is a distributor of malware.

5 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the other social entity has made phishing attempts.

6 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

determining, based on one or more user inputs, a risk threshold; and

associating a security action with the risk threshold.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the security action comprises providing a web-based alert to the user.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the security action comprises providing an email alert to the user.

9 . The method of claim 6 , wherein associating the security action with the risk threshold comprises determining, based on one or more user inputs, an association between the security action and the risk threshold.

10 . The method of claim 6 , wherein determining, based on monitoring the data on the one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity, a risk to the protected social entity comprises:

determining a normalized risk score for the other social entity;

comparing the normalized risk score for the other social entity to the risk threshold;

determining, based on comparing the normalized risk score for the social entity to the risk threshold, that the normalized risk score exceeds the risk threshold; and

responsive to determining that the normalized risk score exceeds the risk threshold, initiating the security action.

11 . The method of claim 10 , wherein determining a normalized risk score for the other social entity comprises:

identifying, by one or more processors, data on a social network that is associated with the other social entity;

determining one or more characteristics of the identified data;

generating, for each of the one or more characteristics, a reference to the identified data;

comparing each generated reference to one or more known references; and

determining, based on each of the comparisons, the risk score for the other social entity.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein providing risk management data to the user comprises:

determining an identity of the user; and

providing, based on the identity of the user, the risk management data.

13 . The method of claim 12 , further comprising:

determining an identity of an another user;

providing, based on the identity of the other user, a subset of the risk management data to the other user.

14 . The method of claim 13 , further comprising:

determining, based on one or more user inputs, a status of the other user,

determining, based on the status of the other user, the subset of the risk management data that is provided to the other user.

15 . The method of claim 1 , wherein providing risk management data to the user comprises:

generating an analysis of data on one or more social networks; and

providing the generated analysis.

16 . A system for providing a risk management platform comprising:

one or more processing devices; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media coupled to the one or more processing devices having instructions stored thereon which, when executed by the one or more processing devices, cause the one or more processing devices to perform operations comprising:

determining, based on one or more user inputs, a protected social entity;

monitoring, by one or more processors, data on one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity;

determining, based on monitoring the data on the one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity, a risk to the protected social entity; and

providing risk management data to a user.

17 . The system of claim 16 , wherein the risk is associated with another social entity.

18 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the other social entity is an impersonator of the protected social entity.

19 . The system of claim 17 , wherein the other social entity is a distributor of malware.

20 . The system of claim 17 , further comprising:

determining, based on one or more user inputs, a risk threshold; and

associating a security action with the risk threshold.

21 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the security action comprises providing a web-based alert to the user.

22 . The system of claim 20 , wherein the security action comprises providing an email alert to the user.

23 . The system of claim 20 , wherein associating the security action with the risk threshold comprises determining, based on one or more user inputs, an association between the security action and the risk threshold.

24 . The system of claim 20 , wherein determining, based on monitoring the data on the one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity, a risk to the protected social entity comprises:

determining a normalized risk score for the other social entity;

comparing the normalized risk score for the other social entity to the risk threshold;

determining, based on comparing the normalized risk score for the social entity to the risk threshold, that the normalized risk score exceeds the risk threshold; and

responsive to determining that the normalized risk score exceeds the risk threshold, initiating the security action.

25 . The system of claim 24 , wherein determining a normalized risk score for the other social entity comprises:

identifying, by one or more processors, data on a social network that is associated with the other social entity;

determining one or more characteristics of the identified data;

generating, for each of the one or more characteristics, a reference to the identified data;

comparing each generated reference to one or more known references; and

determining, based on each of the comparisons, the risk score for the other social entity.

26 . The system of claim 16 , wherein providing risk management data to the user comprises:

determining an identity of the user; and

providing, based on the identity of the user, the risk management data.

27 . The system of claim 26 , further comprising:

determining an identity of an another user;

providing, based on the identity of the other user, a subset of the risk management data to the other user.

28 . The system of claim 26 , further comprising:

determining, based on one or more user inputs, a status of the other user,

determining, based on the status of the other user, the subset of the risk management data that is provided to the other user.

29 . The system of claim 16 , wherein providing risk management data to the user comprises:

generating an analysis of data on one or more social networks; and

providing the generated analysis.

30 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage device encoded with a computer program, the program comprising instructions that when executed by a data processing apparatus cause the data processing apparatus to perform operations comprising:

determining, based on one or more user inputs, a protected social entity;

monitoring, by one or more processors, data on one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity;

determining, based on monitoring the data on the one or more social networks that is related to the protected social entity, a risk to the protected social entity; and

providing risk management data to a user.
