Abstract

The present invention relates to an edible product, which comprises a fibrous plant product and a plant extract applied thereto. Further, the invention relates to a corresponding method for producing said edible product and its use in at least one of food, food supplement, medicinal, cosmetic, well-being, nutraceutical or phytotherapeutical applications. The plants used may be all plants comprising one or more substances of interest for an edible product.

Claims (25)

1. A reconstructed plant product obtained from the following process:

mixing one or more plant components with a solvent to form a plant extract and an at least partially fibrous insoluble residue;

separating the plant extract from the at least partially fibrous insoluble residue;

refining the at least partially fibrous insoluble residue to produce a fibrous pulp and transferring the fibrous pulp to a papermaking process for producing an insoluble paper like sheet product;

concentrating, purifying or aromatizing the plant extract;

applying the plant extract to the insoluble paper like sheet product; and

drying the insoluble paper like sheet product after the plant extract has been applied wherein the plant extract is able to be dissolved from the insoluble paper like sheet product, forming a beverage when contacted with water.

2. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the beverage comprises a tea beverage.

3. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the one or more plant components comprises tea.

4. The product as defined in claim 3 , wherein the reconstructed plant product produces an optical density at 274 nm that is at least 10% greater than the one or more plant components prior to being mixed with the solvent, the optical density being measured in 200 ml of water at 90° C. after 20 seconds.

5. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least partially fibrous insoluble residue comprises substances from more than one type of plant.

6. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the plant extract comprises substances from more than one type of plant.

7. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the one or more plant components are from a plant or plants selected from one or more of the group consisting of herbs, medicinal plants, tea, vegetables, or spices.

8. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the plant extract is at least partially penetrated into the at least partially fibrous insoluble residue.

9. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the plant extract is applied to the at least partially fibrous insoluble residue as a fluid or a gel or a slurry or a powder.

10. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the plant extract is soluble or dispersible or water-soluble.

11. The product as defined in claim 1 , further comprising the step of converting the insoluble paper like sheet product into a powder, a tablet, a pellet, or a granule.

12. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the plant extract is concentrated prior to being applied to the insoluble paper like sheet product.

13. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the one or more plant components comprise black tea.

14. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the one or more plant components comprise rooibos.

15. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the one or more plant components comprise thyme.

16. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the one or more plant components comprises shredded plants that are mixed with the solvent to form the plant extract.

17. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the fibrous pulp is laid onto a wire belt to produce the insoluble paper like sheet product, excess water being removed from the insoluble paper like sheet product while laying on the wire belt.

18. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the fibrous pulp is combined with cellulosic fibers comprising abaca fibers, hardwood fibers or softwood fibers prior to forming the insoluble paper like sheet product.

19. The product as defined in claim 1 , wherein the insoluble paper like sheet product has a basis weight of from about 90 grams per meter 2 to about 120 grams per meter 2 .
