Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention include systems and methods that relate to pulse oximetry. Specifically, one embodiment includes an oximeter sensor comprising a light emitting element configured to emit light, a light detector configured to detect the light, and a memory chip having a built-in trimmed resistor, the trimmed resistor having a resistance value that is detectable by a monitor.

Claims (40)

4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the sensor comprises at least two electrodes configured to generate an impedance signal indicative of contact between the sensor and the patient's tissue.

5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the sensor comprises at least one pulse oximeter sensor configured to generate a signal indicative of an oxygen saturation measurement.

6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the physiological waveform comprises an electrocardiogram (ECG) waveform.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the physiological waveform comprises a photoplethysmogram (PPG) waveform.

8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the physiological data further comprise one or more of data indicative of heart rate, data indicative of motion, at least one indication of one or more physiological events, or any combination thereof.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the memory is further configured to store an indication of a sensor disconnect.

10. The device of claim 1 , wherein the memory is further configured to store a patient identification.

11. The device of claim 1 , wherein the memory is further configured to store an indication of elapsed time of sensor usage.

12. The device of claim 1 , wherein the memory is further configured to store an indication of temperature.

13. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a display.

14. The device of claim 1 wherein the physiological data comprise at least one numerical representation of a physiological parameter.

15. The device of claim 1 , wherein the interface is configured to transmit at least some of the physiological data to the remote device essentially real-time.

16. The device of claim 1 , wherein the interface is configured to transmit at least some of the physiological data to the remote device after a time delay.

17. The device of claim 1 , wherein the interface is configured to transmit at least some of the physiological data to the remote device essentially continuously.

18. The device of claim 1 , wherein the interface is configured to transmit at least some of the physiological data to the remote device intermittently.

19. The device of claim 1 , wherein the memory element is further configured to store an indication of sensor usage.

20. The device of claim 1 , wherein the interface is configured to transmit at least some of the physiological data to the remote device in response to an indication that the sensor is electrically disconnected from the memory.

21. The device of claim 1 , wherein the interface is configured to transmit at least some of the physiological data to the remote device in response to an indication that the sensor is at least partially detached from the patient.

22. The device of claim 1 , wherein the interface is configured to transmit at least some of the physiological data to the remote device upon receipt of an instruction to transmit from the processor.

23. The device of claim 1 , wherein the interface is further configured to transmit at least some of physiological data stored over a specified monitoring time to the remote device.

24. The device of claim 1 , wherein the memory is further configured to store a highest and a lowest value of at least some of the physiological data.
