Abstract

A user module for a patient support is provided. The user module is coupled to a patient support barrier, such as a siderail or a footboard.

Claims (23)

1. A patient support apparatus comprising:

a siderail;

a detachable user module comprising a touchscreen user interface; and

a user module docking region in the siderail, the user module docking region comprising a recessed area defined by a back panel, a plurality of sides, and an open end defined to slideably receive the user module by movement of the user module in a vertical direction relative to the siderail, wherein the user module docking region comprises a guide track, the user module comprises a side surface and a generally straight guide bar protruding away from the side surface, and the guide track is configured to slidably receive therein the generally straight guide bar but not the side surface of the user module.

2. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the user module comprises a handle.

3. The patient support apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the handle is located on a top portion of the user module.

4. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the user module docking region is configured to slideably receive the user module by movement of the user module in a downwardly vertical direction relative to the siderail.

5. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the user module is detachable from the user module docking region by a sliding movement in an upwardly vertical direction relative to the siderail.

6. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sides of the user module docking region comprise a pair of opposing indented sides, and the user module docking region comprises a guide track located on one of the opposing indented sides.

7. The patient support apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the guide track includes an angled region sized to receive the generally straight guide bar of the user module to position the user module at an acute angle with respect to a vertical axis of the siderail.

8. The patient support apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the angled region of the guide track comprises a step.

9. The patient support apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the angled region of the guide track comprises a detent, the generally straight guide bar of the user module comprises an ear, and the detent is configured to receive the ear of the generally straight guide bar of the user module.

10. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sides of the user module docking region comprise a pair of opposing sides, the user module docking region comprises a pair of guide tracks, and one of the guide tracks is located on each of the opposing sides of the user module docking region.

11. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the open end of the user module docking region is located adjacent a top portion of the siderail.

12. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the siderail has apertures defining first and second grip regions of the siderail.

13. The patient support apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the docking region is situated between the grip regions.

14. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a ribbon that connects electrical circuitry of the user module to electrical circuitry of the patient support apparatus.

15. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the ribbon extends from a back of the user module to at least the back panel of the recessed area.

16. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of sides includes a bottom side and a bottom of the user module is in close proximity to the bottom side when the user module is in a storage position.

17. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the user module has a stop that abuts a portion of the siderail when the user module is in the storage position.

18. The patient support apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the stop is located near a top of the user module.

19. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the docking region is formed integrally with the siderail.

20. The patient support apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the user module fills the docking region when the user module is in a storage position.
