Abstract

Systems and methods for adding digital content associated with a first user account within a content management system to a second user account within the content management system. In various embodiments, the system may be configured to allow a user to add digital content to an account within a content management system associated with the user when the user receives a shared link to access digital content associated with an account within the content management system belonging to another user. The system may be configured to add the digital content to the user account by associating the digital content with the user's account. In various embodiments, the system may be configured to add the digital content to the user's account by creating an entry in a server-side file journal associated with the user's account, where the entry includes one or more file reference strings associated with the digital content.

Claims (31)

1 . A computer system comprising at least one processor, wherein the computer system is configured for:

receiving, from a first user, a request to share digital content from a first user's account within a content management system with a second user having a second user's account within the content management system;

generating a link the may be activated by the second user to initiate receiving access to the digital content from the first user's account; and

associating the digital content associated with the first user's account with the second user's account in response to the activation of the generated link, where the association comprises adding journal entries to reconstruct digital content associated with the first user's account to a server-side journal associated with the second user's account.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein associating the digital content with the second user's account comprises adding data to a data store associated with the second user's account that is sufficient to allow the system to retrieve the digital content from a particular storage location in response to the second user activating the generated link.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein associating the digital content with the second user's account comprises providing the second user with access to the digital content via the second user's account without moving a copy of the digital content into the second user's account.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the digital content comprises one or more digital files.

5 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein adding journal entries comprises adding one or more file reference strings associated with the digital content to the server-side file journal associated with the second user's account within the content management system.

6 . The computer system of claim 5 , wherein each the server-side file journal is stored on one or more servers associated with the computer system.

7 . The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the content management system is a synched cloud-based content management system.

8 . A computer-implemented method comprising the steps of:

receiving from a first user, by a processor, a request to share digital content from a first user's account within a content management system with a second user having a second user's account;

generating, by the processor, a link the may be activated by the second user to initiate receiving access to the digital content from the first user's account; and

associating, by the processor, the digital content associated with the first user's account with the second user's account in response to the activation of the generated link, where the association comprises adding journal entries to reconstruct digital content associated with the first user's account to a server-side journal associated with the second user's account.

9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein associating the digital content comprises copying one or more file reference strings associated with the digital content to the server-side file journal associated with the second user's account.

10 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the digital content is stored on one or more servers associated with the content management system.

11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the second user's account is within the content management system.

12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein associating the digital content with the second account comprises providing access to the digital content to the second user through the second user's account.

13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein the digital content comprises at least one digital file.

14 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , further comprising:

receiving account information associated with the second user's account; and

using the account information to enable the step of associating the digital content with the second user's account.

15 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein associating the digital content with the second user's account comprises providing the second user with access to the digital content via the second user's account without moving a copy of the digital content into the second user's account.

16 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions for:

receiving from a first user a request to share digital content from a first user's account within a content management system with a second user having a second user's account within the content management system;

generating a link the may be activated by the second user to initiate receiving access to the digital content from the first user's account; and

associating the digital content associated with the first user's account with the second user's account in response to the activation of the generated link, where the association comprises adding journal entries to reconstruct digital content associated with the first user's account to a server-side journal associated with the second user's account.

17 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein associating the digital content with the second user's account comprises adding data to a data store associated with the second user's account that is sufficient to allow the system to retrieve the digital content from a particular storage location in response to the second user requesting access to the digital content.

18 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein associating the digital content with the second user's account comprises providing the second user with access to the digital content via the second user's account without moving a copy of the digital content into the second user's account.

19 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the digital content comprises one or more digital files selected from a group consisting of: music files; video files; photos; and text files.

20 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein associating the digital content with the second user's account comprises adding one or more file reference strings associated with the digital content to the server-side file journal associated with the second user's account within the content management system.
