Abstract

A spinal implant device identifiable after implantation comprises an outer cage member and an implant body. The implant body is disposed between a first vertebra end and a second vertebra end of the outer cage and defines a plurality of planes. Each of the planes comprises separately readable indicia such that the indicia are discernible by at least one of x-ray, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, electromagnetic radiation, ultrasound, or magnetic resonance imaging.

Claims (25)

1. A spinal implant device identifiable after implantation, comprising:

an outer cage member comprising a first vertebra end and a second vertebra end configured for implantation between adjacent vertebrae; and

an implant body comprising an internal mesh structure defined by a plurality of linking structures, each of said linking structures having at least one of a predetermined size and orientation, said linking structures being interconnected to substantially form an implant device structure, and said linking structures forming predetermined indicia having encoded information such that said indicia are discernible by at least one of x-ray, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, electromagnetic radiation, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging.

2. The implant device of claim 1 , wherein said indicia in said implant body comprise a code having error correction coding.

3. The implant device of claim 1 , wherein said implant body comprises a rod.

4. The implant device of claim 3 , wherein said rod comprises a tantalum rod.

5. The implant device of claim 1 , wherein said outer cage member comprises allograft bone.

6. A spinal implant device identifiable after implantation, comprising:

an outer cage member configured for implantation; and

an implant body comprising an internal mesh structure defined by a plurality of linking structures, each of said linking structures having at least one of a predetermined size and orientation in reference to a unique registration structure, said linking structures being interconnected to substantially form an implant device structure, and said linking structures forming predetermined indicia that provide data relating to the implant device, such that said indicia are discernible by at least one of x-ray, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, electromagnetic radiation, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging.

7. The spinal implant device of claim 6 , further comprising a main portion and a readable portion, wherein said implant body forms part of said readable portion, and said readable portion is integral with said main portion.

8. The spinal implant device of claim 7 , wherein said readable portion and said main portion are comprised of the same material.

9. The spinal implant device of claim 7 , wherein said main portion does not contain said predetermined indicia.

10. The spinal implant device of claim 6 , wherein said predetermined indicia comprise a Hamming code.

11. A spinal implant device identifiable after implantation, comprising:

an outer cage member configured for implantation; and

an implant body comprising an internal mesh structure defined by a plurality of linking structures, each of said linking structures having at least one of a predetermined size and orientation representing data, said linking structures being interconnected to substantially form an implant device structure, and said linking structures forming predetermined indicia such that said indicia are discernible by at least one of x-ray, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, electromagnetic radiation, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging.

12. The spinal implant device of claim 11 , further comprising a main portion and a readable portion, wherein said implant body forms part of said readable portion, and said readable portion is integral with said main portion.

13. The spinal implant device of claim 12 , wherein said readable portion and said main portion are comprised of the same material.

14. The spinal implant device of claim 12 , wherein said main portion does not contain predetermined indicia.

15. The spinal implant device of claim 11 , wherein said predetermined indicia comprise a Hamming code.

16. The spinal implant device of claim 11 , wherein each of said linking structures has a predetermined size and orientation representing binary data.

17. The spinal implant device of claim 11 , wherein said predetermined indicia provides data relating to the spinal implant device.

18. The spinal implant device of claim 11 , wherein said predetermined indicia provides data relating to a patient corresponding to the spinal implant device.

19. The spinal implant device of claim 11 , wherein said predetermined indicia provides data relating to a surgical operation.
