Abstract

A dynamic media player is disclosed. A method for providing the dynamic media player includes presenting a media player in a first portion of a user interface (UI) of a content sharing platform on a mobile device. The media player is to provide playback of a media item. The method further includes receiving, via a second portion of the UI, a user request to perform an activity that is independent of the viewing of the media item. The method further includes presenting content associated with the requested activity while continuing to provide playback of the media item in the media player of the first portion of the UI.

Claims (38)

1 . A method comprising:

presenting a media player in a first portion of a user interface (UI) of a content sharing platform on a mobile device, the media player to provide playback of a media item;

receiving, via a second portion of the UI, a user request to perform an activity that is independent of the viewing of the media item; and

presenting content associated with the requested activity while continuing to provide playback of the media item in the media player of the first portion of the UI.

2 . The method of claim 1 , the method further comprising:

receiving, via the second portion, a request for video playback of a second media item associated with the activity; and

presenting video playback of the second media item in the first portion of the UI.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the media player is presented as part of an application, and wherein the activity is associated with the application.

4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the content is provided by a media platform.

5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity is a search for a second media item, and wherein the content is provided by a search engine platform.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity is social networking, and wherein the content presented in the second portion is provided by a social network application.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity is messaging, wherein the content includes a plurality of messages from at least two different users of a message service.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the activity comprises an interaction with an electronic advertisement.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first portion of the UI is presented semi-transparently.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second portion of the UI is associated with a social network application.

11 . An apparatus comprising:

a display device;

a memory communicably coupled to the display device; and

a processing device communicably coupled to the memory, the processing device to execute instructions to:

present a media player in a first portion of a user interface (UI) of a content sharing platform on a mobile device, the media player to provide playback of a media item;

receive, via a second portion of the UI, a user request to perform an activity that is independent of the viewing of the media item; and

present content associated with the requested activity while continuing to provide playback of the media item in the media player of the first portion of the UI.

12 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the processing device is further to:

receive, via the second portion, a request for video playback of a second media item associated with the activity; and

present video playback of the second media item in the first portion of the UI.

13 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the media player and the activity are associated with an application.

14 . The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the activity is a search for a second media item, and wherein the content is provided by a search engine platform.

15 . A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed, cause a processing device to perform operations comprising:

presenting a media player in a first portion of a user interface (UI) of a content sharing platform on a mobile device, the media player to provide playback of a media item;

receiving, via a second portion of the UI, a user request to perform an activity that is independent of the viewing of the media item; and

presenting content associated with the requested activity while continuing to provide playback of the media item in the media player of the first portion of the UI.

16 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , the operations further comprising:

receiving, via the second portion, a request for video playback of a second media item associated with the activity; and

presenting video playback of the second media item in the first portion of the UI.

17 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the media player is presented as part of an application, and wherein the activity is associated with the application.

18 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the second portion of the UI is associated with a social network application.

19 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the activity comprises an interaction with an electronic advertisement.

20 . The non-transitory machine-readable storage medium of claim 15 , wherein the activity is messaging, wherein the content includes a plurality of messages from at least two different users of a message service.
