Abstract

According to one embodiment of the invention, a method for creating and/or altering a video bookmark is described. The method comprises an operation of processing a request from a downloaded scripted object to create a video bookmark. The video bookmark may be information that is used for performing an action involving additional information related to the video content being played at a time of the request. Thereafter, the video bookmark is created based on the request.

Claims (31)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A method of an information processing apparatus for creating a bookmark, comprising:

executing, by circuitry of the information processing apparatus, a triggered declarative object (TDO) in synchronization with video content;

processing, by the circuitry of the information processing apparatus, a request from the TDO to create the bookmark, the bookmark including a location of information that is related to the video content; and

creating the bookmark based on the request.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the bookmark includes an image from the video content captured at the time of the request.

23 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the bookmark includes metadata associated with a product or service that is displayed during reproduction of the video content.

24 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the location of the information is defined by a uniform resource locator (URL).

25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the location of the information is defined by a pointer to one or more files stored externally from the information processing apparatus.

26 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the processing includes receiving an Application Programming Interface (API) function call into an Application Programming Interface, the API function call being translated into signaling to create the bookmark, the signaling includes addressing information for subsequent use in retrieving the information from an external source.

27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the signaling further includes an identifier for use in avoiding repetitive storage of bookmarks.

28 . An electronic device comprising:

circuitry configured to

execute a triggered declarative object (TDO) in synchronization with video content,

process a request from the TDO to create the bookmark, the bookmark including a location of information that is related to the video content, and

create the bookmark based on the request.

29 . The electronic device of claim 28 being a digital television including a receiver including the circuitry.

30 . The electronic device of claim 29 , wherein the circuitry includes a tuner, a demultiplexer coupled to the tuner, and a decoder coupled to the demultiplexer and a display.

31 . The electronic device of claim 28 , wherein the bookmark includes an image from the video content captured at the time of the request.

32 . The electronic device of claim 28 , wherein the bookmark includes metadata associated with a product or service being displayed during reproduction of the video content.

33 . The electronic device of claim 28 , wherein the location of the information is defined by a uniform resource locator (URL).

34 . The electronic device of claim 28 , wherein the location of the information is defined by a pointer to one or more files stored externally from the electronic device.

35 . The electronic device of claim 28 , wherein the TDO executed by the circuitry further generates an Application Programming Interface (API) function call that is subsequently translated into signaling to create the bookmark, the signaling includes an identifier for subsequent use in identifying the bookmark and addressing information for subsequent use in retrieving the information from an external source.

36 . A non-transitory storage medium to store an executable object that, when executed by a processor, causes an electronic device, implemented with both the non-transitory storage medium and the processor, to perform operations comprising:

executing, by the processor, a triggered declarative object (TDO) in synchronization with video content;

processing, by the processor, a request from the TDO to create a bookmark, the bookmark including a location of information that is related to the video content; and

creating the bookmark based on the request.

37 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 36 , wherein the bookmark includes an image from the video content captured at the time of the request.

38 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 36 , wherein the bookmark includes metadata associated with a product or service that is displayed during reproduction of the video content.

39 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 36 , wherein the location of the information is defined by a uniform resource locator (URL).

40 . The non-transitory storage medium of claim 36 , wherein the location of the information is defined by a pointer to one or more files stored externally from the electronic device.
