Abstract

A method of activation and authorization of a near field communication (NFC) enabled device comprising: receiving login information from an NFC enabled device; sending packet data via a network in response to receiving the login information from the NFC enabled device; and receiving corresponding data from the NFC enabled device in response to the sending of the packet data, the sending of the packet data and the receiving of the corresponding code facilitates the activation and authorization of the NFC enabled device, and the subsequent activation of the NFC device via a NFC link without further authorization of the NFC enabled device, is described herein.

Claims (35)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a near field communication (NFC) enabled device adapted to:

communicate login information and a public key associated with the NFC enabled device via a network to a server;

receive packet data from the server sent in response to the login information;

communicate a corresponding code to the server in response to the receipt of the packet data, wherein the receipt of the packet data and the communication of the corresponding code facilitates activation and authorization of the NFC enabled device; and

store the packet data and access the stored packet data to permit subsequent activation of the NFC enabled device via an NFC link without further authorization of the NFC enabled device.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the NFC enabled device is further adapted to receive the login information from a user.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the login information further comprises one of a phone number, pin number, email address, or password.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the packet data includes data associated with the NFC enabled device and comprises one of country, currency, language, or security code.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the NFC enabled device comprises a cell phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a smart phone, a computer, or a personal computer (PC).

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein activation of the NFC device via the NFC link includes one of tapping the NFC enabled device with another NFC enabled device, or positioning the NFC enabled device in close proximity to another NFC enabled device.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the NFC enabled device comprises a cell phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a smart phone, a computer, or a personal computer (PC).

8. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the other NFC enabled device comprises a cell phone, a fob, a smartcard, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a smart phone, a computer, a personal computer (PC), or a point of purchase (POP) terminal.

9. A method comprising:

communicating, by a hardware processor, login information and a public key associated with a Near-Field Communication (NFC) enabled device to a server for initial activation of the NFC enabled device at the server;

receiving, by the hardware processor, packet data generated by the server based on the login information and the public key;

generating a corresponding code based on the packet data received;

communicating the corresponding code to the server;

storing the packet data for subsequent activation of the NFC enabled device; and

authorizing the NFC enabled device at the server automatically without requiring login information by accessing the stored packet data when an NFC link is subsequently established.

10. The method of claim 9 , further comprising generating the public key associated with the NFC enabled device and receiving use specific information from a user.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the user specific information comprises one of a phone number, pin number, email address, or password.

12. The method of claim 9 , where the packet data includes data associated with the NFC enabled device and comprises one of country, currency, language, or security code.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the NFC enabled device comprises a cell phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a smart phone, a computer, or a personal computer (PC).

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein the NFC link is established by one of tapping the NFC enabled device with another NFC enabled device, or positioning the NFC enabled device in close proximity to another NFC enabled device.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the other NFC enabled device comprises a cell phone, a fob, a smartcard, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a smart phone, a computer, a personal computer (PC), or a point of purchase (POP) terminal.

16. The method of claim 9 , further comprising notifying a user of the NFC enabled device that the NFC enabled device has been authorized at the server.

17. A method comprising:

receiving login information from an NFC enabled device;

sending packet data via a network in response to receiving the login information from the NFC enabled device; and

receiving corresponding data from the NFC enabled device sent in response to the sending of the packet data, wherein the sending of the packet data and the receiving of the corresponding code facilitates activation and authorization of the NFC enabled device, and

authorizing the NFC enabled device without requiring the login information from the NFC enabled device when an NFC link is subsequently established at the NFC enabled device.

18. The method of claim 17 , wherein the login information comprises a public key associated with the NFC enabled device.

19. The method of claim 17 , wherein the login information further comprises one of a phone number, pin number, email address, or password.

20. The method of claim 17 , wherein the packet data includes data associated with the NFC enabled device and comprises one of country, currency, language, or security code.
