Abstract

Methods, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer-readable storage mediums for providing and/or processing service usage reporting data. The reception apparatus includes a receiver, a parser, and a processor. The receiver receives closed caption service data. The closed caption service data includes closed caption data within a first service block having a service number in the range of 1-6, and the service usage reporting data within a second service block having a different service number in the range of 1-6. The closed caption data includes closed caption text. The parser parses the service usage reporting data within the second service block having the different service number in the range of 1-6. The processor provides service-usage information to a service-usage reporting server (SURS) based on the service usage reporting data.

Claims (52)

1. A reception apparatus, comprising:

circuitry configured to

receive audio/video content and closed caption service data from a service provider;

when the closed caption service data includes a uniform resource identifier (URI), determine whether a command identifier associated with the URI indicates the URI is a location of a server to which service usage information is to be sent,

when the command identifier indicates the URI is the location of the server to which the service usage information is to be sent, associate the URI with the service provider; and

provide the service-usage information to the server according to the associated URI.

2. The reception apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the URI corresponds to a uniform resource locator (URL) of the server.

3. The reception apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the closed caption service data includes one or a combination of a transport signal identifier (TSID), a major channel number, and a minor channel number of a broadcaster originating the audio/video content associated with the closed caption service data.

4. The reception apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the closed caption service data includes a content identifier.

5. The reception apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the URI is carried in a CEA-708 compliant variable length command.

6. The reception apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein

the URI is carried in the CEA-708 compliant variable length command having a variable length command of 0x98 or 0x99.

7. The reception apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the URI is included in service 6 of the closed caption service data, and

the URI is defined in a variable-length command and at least one fixed-length command carried in the service 6 of the closed caption service data.

8. The reception apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein

the circuitry includes a television tuner that is configured to receive the audio/video content and the closed caption service data via a terrestrial broadcast.

9. A method for providing service usage information, the method comprising:

receiving, by circuitry of a reception apparatus, audio/video content and closed caption service data from a service provider;

when the closed caption service data includes a uniform resource identifier (URI), determining by the circuitry whether a command identifier associated with the URI indicates the URI is a location of a server to which service usage information is to be sent,

when the command identifier indicates the URI is the location of the server to which the service usage information is to be sent, associating by the circuitry the URI with the service provider; and

providing, by the circuitry, the service-usage information to the server according to the associated URI.

10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein

the URI corresponds to a uniform resource locator (URL) of the server.

11. The method according to claim 9 , wherein

the closed caption service data includes one or a combination of a transport signal identifier (TSID), a major channel number, and a minor channel number of a broadcaster originating the audio/video content associated with the closed caption service data.

12. The method according to claim 9 , wherein

the closed caption service data includes a content identifier.

13. The method according to claim 9 , wherein

the URI is carried in a CEA-708 compliant variable length command.

14. The method according to claim 13 , wherein

the URI is carried in the CEA-708 compliant variable length command having a variable length command of 0x98 and 0x99.

15. The method according to claim 9 , wherein

the URI is included in service 6 of the closed caption service data, and

the URI is defined in a variable-length command and at least one fixed-length command carried in the service 6 of the closed caption service data.

16. The method according to claim 9 , further comprising:

receiving, by a television tuner of the circuitry, the audio/video content and the closed caption service data via a terrestrial broadcast.

17. An information providing apparatus, comprising:

circuitry configured to

generate or receive closed caption service data associated with audio/video content, the closed caption service data including a uniform resource identifier (URI) and a command identifier associated with the URI that indicates whether the URI is a location of a server to which service usage information is to be sent; and

provide the audio/video content and the closed caption service data to a reception apparatus, wherein

the URI is associated in the reception apparatus with the service provider when the command identifier associated with the URI indicates the URI is the location of the server to which the service usage information is to be sent, and the service usage information is sent to the server according to the associated URI.

18. The information providing apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein

the URI corresponds to a uniform resource locator (URL) of the server.

19. The information providing apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein

the URI is included in service 6 of the closed caption service data.

20. The information providing apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein

the circuitry is configured to provide the audio/video content and the closed caption service data via a terrestrial broadcast.
