Abstract

A CPAP apparatus for supplying pressurized breathable gas to a patient includes a blower device including an electric motor, an impeller driven by the motor, and a housing to receive the motor and the impeller, a housing element that defines a blower receiving chamber to receive the blower device, and a suspension device to elastically support the blower device within the chamber of the housing element. The suspension device includes at least one elastic support chamber coupled to both the blower device and the housing element.

Claims (39)

1. A CPAP apparatus for supplying pressurized breathable gas to a patient, the CPAP apparatus comprising:

a blower device including an electric motor, an impeller driven by the motor, and an inner housing to receive the motor and the impeller;

an outer housing element that defines a blower receiving chamber, the outer housing comprising a wall;

the wall comprising a through portion, the through portion structured to allow an inflow of air to the blower device;

a suspension device to elastically support the blower device within the chamber of the outer housing element;

the suspension device including at least one elastic support chamber coupled to both the blower device and the outer housing element;

wherein the blower receiving chamber of the outer housing element receives the blower device and the suspension device, and

wherein the blower device is coupled via an elastomer structure to the wall such that a portion of the elastomer structure extends through the wall and couples the elastomer structure to the wall.

2. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the blower device includes a fastening plug portion structured to interlock with a fastening portion provided to the support chamber.

3. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the support chamber includes a fixation plug structure structured to interlock within an opening of the outer housing element.

4. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the support chamber includes an expansion fold portion that allows relative movement between the blower device and the outer housing element.

5. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the support chamber is arranged with respect to a bottom wall of the blower device.

6. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the support chamber includes an inner chamber pressurized by pressurized gas provided by the blower device.

The CPAP apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the blower device includes a fastening plug portion structured to interlock with a fastening portion provided to the support chamber, the fastening plug portion including a pressure conduit that allows pressurized gas from the blower device to be communicated with an inner chamber provided in the support chamber.

8. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein the support chamber provides adequate suspension action regardless of pressure within the inner chamber.

9. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein suspension rigidity provided by the support chamber is variable as a function of the pressurized gas.

10. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the rigidity increases with the pressurized gas.

11. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the support chamber includes a first portion provided to the blower device and a second portion provided to the outer housing element, the first and second portions arranged to move relative to one another in a telescopic manner.

12. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the support chamber includes a bellows or gusset type portion arranged between the first and second portions.

13. A CPAP apparatus for supplying pressurized breathable gas to a patient, the CPAP apparatus comprising:

a blower device including an electric motor, an impeller driven by the motor, and an inner housing including a volute to receive the impeller;

the inner housing including an inlet opening to allow entry of air into the inner housing and an outlet tube, and the outlet tube extends tangential to the inlet opening;

the impeller being coupled to a drive shaft of the motor;

an outer housing element that defines a blower receiving chamber;

the inlet opening of the inner housing provided along a bottom wall of the blower device and orientated towards a bottom of the outer housing element; and

a suspension device to elastically and resiliently support the blower device within the chamber of the outer housing element;

the suspension device including a plurality of elastically deformable support members made from an elastomer material;

wherein at least two of the support members are arranged along the bottom wall of the blower device and project downwardly from the bottom wall to support the blower device;

wherein the suspension device includes a peripheral side portion that engages the volute along its perimeter, radially aligned with the impeller;

wherein the peripheral side portion is formed in one piece with the support members and extends to a position vertically aligned with and beneath the tangential outlet tube;

wherein the blower receiving chamber of the outer housing element receives the blower device and the suspension device.

14. A CPAP apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the suspension device at least partially covers a lower portion of the blower device.

15. A CPAP apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the suspension device includes an open end to accommodate the outlet tube.

16. A CPAP apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the outlet tube is coupled to a gas tract system within the housing element, the gas tract system including an elastomer portion to receive the outlet tube.

17. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the suspension device is disposed below a bottom wall of the inner housing.

18. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the suspension device is disposed between the inner housing and the outer housing element.

19. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the suspension device is disposed below a bottom wall of the inner housing.

20. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the suspension device is disposed between the inner housing and the outer housing element.

21. The CPAP apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein at least one elastic support chamber is inflatable.
