Abstract

Apparatus ( 10, 200 ) for the provision of TNP therapy to a wound is described, the apparatus ( 10, 200 ) including: a waste canister ( 22, 204 ) into which fluid is aspirated from a wound by aspiration pump means ( 44, 248 ) and a fluid flow path ( 420, 422 ) for at least a part of said aspirated fluid on an outlet side of said aspiration pump means ( 44 ) wherein said fluid flow path ( 420, 422 ) on the outlet side comprises a silencing system ( 400 ) having a plurality of silencing elements ( 402, 404, 406 ) therein.

Claims (26)

1. A negative pressure wound therapy apparatus comprising:

a casing comprising an exterior portion and an interior portion, the interior portion defining a first interior volume;

a negative pressure source positioned in the first interior volume and attached directly to the inner portion of the casing; and

a silencing system configured to reduce a noise level generated by the negative pressure source, the silencing system comprising:

at least one exhaust conduit;

a plenum chamber fluidically connected to the at least one exhaust conduit, wherein the plenum chamber is positioned within the first interior volume, and wherein the plenum chamber comprises a housing defining a second interior volume comprising sound absorbing material; and

a removable cover integrated into the casing, the cover configured to seal the second interior volume in a first position, the cover further configured to provide access to the second interior volume in a second position so that the sound absorbing material can be replaced, wherein the sound absorbing material is configured to remain within the first interior volume when the cover is moved from the first position to the second position.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plenum chamber comprises an outer rim, and wherein the removable cover is configured to seal the second interior volume by engaging with the outer rim in the first position.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the negative pressure source is configured to be in fluidic communication with a waste canister not positioned in the first interior volume and configured to be attached to the casing.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the silencing system is configured to reduce the noise level generated by the negative pressure source to about 50 dbA or less.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the plenum chamber comprises an open face sealed by the casing.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least one exhaust conduit comprises first and second exhaust conduits, and wherein the plenum chamber is positioned between the first and second exhaust conduits.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the first exhaust conduit is connected to an outlet of the negative pressure source.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , further comprising an exhaust port connected to the second exhaust conduit.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the silencing system is positioned between the outlet and the exhaust port.

10. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein diameters of the first and second exhaust conduits are substantially same.

11. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the first exhaust conduit is longer than the second exhaust conduit.

12. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the first and second exhaust conduits are positioned within the first interior volume.

13. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the negative pressure source comprises a diaphragm pump and the at least one exhaust conduit comprises a tubing.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the tubing comprises silicone tubing.

15. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sound absorbing material is further configured to filter wound odor.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the sound absorbing material comprises activated charcoal.

17. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the sound absorbing material is configured to absorb standing sound waves.

18. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the removable cover comprises a sealing gasket configured to seal the second interior volume.

19. The apparatus of claim 18 , wherein the sealing gasket is squeezed between the casing and the outer rim of the plenum chamber when the removable cover is in the first position.

20. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a user interface that includes a display.
