Abstract

A continuous positive air pressure (“CPAP”) or ventilator system includes a mask and an air flow generator. The air flow generator is mounted or provided to the mask's wearer. In one embodiment, air flow generator is mounted on the mask.

Claims (46)

1. A continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) system configured to provide continuous positively pressurized air to a patient, the CPAP system comprising:

a mask comprising:

a shell;

a cushion provided to the shell to form a chamber and configured to sealingly engage the patient's face; and

an inlet port in said shell to receive a flow of breathable gas; and

a flow generator configured to move in concert with movement of said patient during a CPAP treatment session,

wherein the flow generator is configured to generate a pressure of about 2-40 cm H 2 O in the chamber.

2. A CPAP system according to claim 1 , wherein the flow generator is mounted directly to the shell.

3. A CPAP system according to claim 2 , wherein an outlet of the flow generator is in direct contact with the inlet port.

4. A CPAP system according to claim 3 , wherein the mask is configured to avoid obstruction of said patient's vision.

5. A CPAP system according to claim 1 , further comprising an air delivery tube connecting the flow generator to the mask.

6. A CPAP system according to claim 5 , wherein the air delivery tube is sized to maintain a low profile adjacent said patient's body.

7. A CPAP system according to claim 6 , wherein the air delivery tube does not exceed 1 meter in length.

8. A CPAP system according to claim 1 , further comprising headgear with a flow generator receiving portion configured to receive the flow generator.

9. A CPAP system according to claim 8 , wherein the headgear comprises at least one strap configured to retain the flow generator.

10. A CPAP system according to claim 9 , further comprising a damping system configured to reduce vibration and noise transmitted between the flow generator and the patient's head.

11. A CPAP system according to claim 10 , wherein the damping system comprises a visco-elastic foam or soft foam.

12. The CPAP system of claim 11 , further comprising an air delivery tube connecting the flow generator to the mask, wherein the air delivery tube does not exceed 0.5 meters in length.

13. A continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) system configured to provide continuous positively pressurized air to a patient, the CPAP system comprising:

a mask comprising:

a shell;

a cushion provided to the shell to form a chamber, the cushion being configured to sealingly engage the patient's face; and

an inlet port in said shell to receive a flow of breathable gas;

a flow generator to generate a pressure of about 2-40 cm H 2 O in the chamber; and

an air delivery tube configured to fluidly connect the flow generator to the mask,

wherein the flow generator and the air delivery tube are configured to move in concert with movement of a patient during a CPAP treatment session.

14. A CPAP system according to claim 13 , wherein the air delivery tube is sized to maintain a low profile adjacent said patient's body.

15. A CPAP system according to claim 14 , wherein the air delivery tube is kink resistant.

16. A CPAP system according to claim 15 , wherein the air delivery tube does not exceed 1 meter in length.

17. A CPAP system according to claim 15 , wherein the air delivery tube does not exceed 0.5 meters in length.

18. A CPAP system according to claim 17 , further comprising headgear with a flow generator receiving portion configured to receive the flow generator.

19. A CPAP system according to claim 18 , wherein the headgear comprises at least one strap configured to retain the flow generator.

20. A CPAP system according to claim 19 , further comprising a damping system configured to reduce vibration and noise transmitted between the flow generator and the patient's head.

21. A CPAP system according to claim 20 , wherein the damping system comprises a visco-elastic foam or soft foam.

22. A continuous positive air pressure (CPAP) system configured to provide continuous positively pressurized air to a patient, the CPAP system comprising:

a mask comprising:

a shell;

a cushion provided to the shell to form a chamber, the cushion being configured to sealingly engage the patient's face; and

an inlet port in said shell to receive a flow of breathable gas; and

a flow generator configured to move in concert with movement of said patient's head during a CPAP treatment session,

wherein the flow generator is configured to generate a pressure of about 2-40 cm H 2 O in the chamber.

23. A CPAP system according to claim 22 , further comprising an air delivery tube fluidly connecting the flow generator to the mask, an entirety of the air delivery tube being configured to move in concert with said patient's head.

24. A CPAP system according to claim 23 , wherein the air delivery tube does not exceed 0.5 meters in length.

25. A CPAP system according to claim 24 , further comprising headgear with a flow generator receiving portion configured to receive the flow generator.

26. A CPAP system according to claim 25 , wherein the headgear comprises at least one strap configured to retain the flow generator.

27. A CPAP system according to claim 26 , further comprising a damping system configured to reduce vibration and noise transmitted between the flow generator and the patient's head.
