Abstract

A system and method for managing data transfer operations includes at least one data server including data stored in a plurality of data fields, at least one transaction server operatively coupled to the at least one data server and configured to provide at least one customizable business rule and a customer relationship application, an information server operatively coupled to the at least one transaction server, and at least one workstation operatively coupled to the information server. The least one workstation includes local memory accessible to the customer relationship application and configured to provide web communication and presentation services to a user of the at least one workstation that are deployed on the information server. The at least one customizable business rule specifies a mapping between the plurality of data fields and the local memory, the mapping having been provided by the user interacting with the web communication and presentation services.

Claims (43)

1. A system for managing data transfer operations, the system comprising:

at least one data server including data stored in a plurality of data fields;

at least one transaction server operatively coupled to the at least one data server, the at least one transaction server configured to provide at least one customizable business rule and a customer relationship application including a service application;

an information server operatively coupled to the at least one transaction server; and

a plurality of workstations operatively coupled to the information server,

each of the plurality of workstations including a local database including at least one custom data field having been added by a respective user of the workstation,

each of the plurality of workstations having access to the customer relationship application, the service application being executed periodically in order to import the data from the data server into the local database of a respective workstation, the importing being performed based on the at least one customizable business rule, and

each of the plurality of workstations configured to provide web communication and presentation services to the respective user of the workstation, and

the at least one customizable business rule specifying a mapping between the plurality of data fields and the local database, the mapping having been provided by the user interacting with the web communication and presentation services.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one data server is one of a Structured Query Language (SQL) server and a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS).

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one customizable business rule and the customer relationship application are provided as a set of Component Object Module (COM) objects by the at least one transaction server.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the web communication and presentation services include Active Server pages.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of workstations further include a respective display device configured to display a table including the contents of the plurality of data fields.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein each of the plurality of data fields has associated with it a unique status field.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the table further includes a value for the unique status field for each of the plurality of data fields.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the mapping between the plurality of data fields and the local database includes the at least one custom data field.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one transaction server is configured to further provide at least one predetermined business rule for maintaining at least one of referential integrity, one or more required fields, and automatic sequence numbering of the plurality of data fields being mapped to the local database.

10. A method for managing data transfer operations, the method comprising:

accessing, by each of a plurality of workstations, at least one customizable business rule and a customer relationship application including a service application;

providing, by each of the plurality of workstations, web communication and presentation services to a respective user each of the plurality of workstations;

receiving, by each of the plurality of workstations, input indicative of a mapping between data included in a plurality of data fields included in at least one data server and a local database accessible to the customer relationship application, the input having been provided by the respective user of each of the plurality of workstations interacting with the web communication and the presentation services;

customizing the at least one customizable business rule based on the received input, the service application being executed periodically in order to import the data from the at least one data server into the local database of a respective workstation, the importing being performed based on the customized at least one customizable business rule; and

mapping the data to the local database using the customized at least one customizable business rule.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the at least one data server is one of a Structured Query Language (SQL) server and a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS).

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the at least one customizable business rule and the customer relationship application are Component Object Module (COM) objects.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the web communication and presentation services include Active Server pages.

14. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

displaying, by each of the plurality of workstations, a table including the contents of the plurality of data fields.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein each of the plurality of data fields has associated with it a unique status field.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the table further includes a value for the unique status field for each of the plurality of data fields.

17. The method of claim 10 , wherein the mapping between the plurality of data fields and the local database includes the at least one custom data field.

18. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

providing at least one predetermined business rule for maintaining at least one of referential integrity, one or more required fields, and automatic sequence numbering of the plurality of data fields being mapped to the local database.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein the web communication and presentation services are deployed on the information server.

20. A system for managing data transfer operations, the system comprising:

at least one data server including data stored in a plurality of data fields;

at least one transaction server operatively coupled to the at least one data server, the at least one transaction server configured to provide at least one customizable business rule and a customer relationship application including a service application;

an information server operatively coupled to the at least one transaction server; and

a plurality of workstations operatively coupled to the information server,

each of the plurality of workstations including a local database including at least one custom data field having been added by a respective user of the workstation, sequence numbering of the plurality of data fields being mapped to the local database.

each of the plurality of workstations having access to the customer relationship application, the service application being executed periodically in order to export the data from the data server into the local database of a respective workstation, the exporting being performed based on the at least one customizable business rule, and

each of the plurality of workstations configured to provide web communication and presentation services to the respective user of the workstation, and

the at least one customizable business rule specifying a mapping between the plurality of data fields and the local database, the mapping having been provided by the user interacting with the web communication and presentation services.
