Abstract

A mobile device and related method includes a power save mode to reduce battery consumption of the mobile device. The user is queried whether to enter the power save mode and a download request from another mobile device associated with the user is delayed while the device is in the power save mode.

Claims (36)

1. A method for transferring data between a mobile device and a server, comprising, with a processor of the mobile device, controlling the mobile device for:

querying a user of a first mobile device by displaying a notification on a user interface of the first mobile device to select whether to enter a power save mode;

wherein a second mobile device shares a same user account with the first mobile device;

upon selection by a user of entering the power save mode at the first mobile device, optimizing traffic at the first mobile device by blocking transmission of at least some traffic from the first mobile device;

wherein content selected for download from the server at the second mobile device is delayed for download at the first mobile device when the first mobile device is in the power save mode,

wherein the content selected for download at the second mobile device is downloaded at the second mobile device when the second mobile device is not in the power save mode.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein blocking traffic includes batching traffic.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein blocking traffic includes delaying sending of traffic.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the content is downloaded at the first mobile device when the first mobile device exits the power save mode.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the first mobile device exits the power save mode in response to instructions from the user.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the power save mode is further based on a charging status of the mobile device.

7. A mobile device comprising:

a radio;

a memory; and

a processor configured for:

querying a user by displaying a notification on a user interface of the mobile device to select whether to enter a power save mode;

upon selection by a user of entering the power save mode for the mobile device, optimizing traffic at the mobile device by blocking transmission of at least some traffic from the mobile device;

wherein another mobile device shares a same user account with the mobile device;

wherein content selected for download at the another mobile device from a server is delayed for download at the mobile device when the mobile device is in the power save mode,

wherein the content selected for download at the another mobile device is downloaded at the second mobile device when the second mobile device is not in the power save mode.

8. The mobile device of claim 7 , wherein blocking traffic includes batching traffic.

9. The mobile device of claim 7 , wherein blocking traffic includes delaying sending of traffic.

10. The mobile device of claim 7 , wherein the content is downloaded at the mobile device when the mobile device exits the power save mode.

11. The mobile device of claim 10 , wherein the mobile device exits the power save mode in response to instructions from the user.

12. The mobile device of claim 7 , wherein the power save mode is further based on a charging status of the mobile device.

13. A content server configured for:

receiving a request for content from a first mobile device;

wherein a second mobile device has a same user account as the first mobile device;

wherein the second mobile device is in a power save mode;

sending the requested content to the first mobile device;

sending the requested content to the second mobile device after the second mobile device exits the power save mode, wherein each of the first mobile device and the second mobile device query a user whether to enter the power save mode for each respective mobile device by displaying a notification for selection on a user interface of the first mobile device and a user interface of the second mobile device,

wherein, when the user selects that the first mobile device is in the power save mode, traffic is optimized by blocking at least some traffic from the first mobile device.

14. The content server of claim 13 , wherein blocking traffic includes batching traffic.

15. The content server of claim 13 , wherein blocking traffic includes delaying traffic.

16. The content server of claim 13 , wherein the mobile device exits the power save mode in response to instructions from the user.

17. The content server of claim 13 , wherein the power save mode is further based on a charging status of the mobile device.
