Abstract

A pipe joining material for connecting pipes and fittings and a method of making a pipe joining material are provided. The pipe joining material may include a thermoplastic material such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and/or chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) and a bonding agent for the thermoplastic material.

Claims (13)

1. An apparatus comprising:

(a) a first preformed pipe or pipe fitting; and,

(b) a second preformed pipe or pipe fitting joined to the first pipe or pipe fitting by a pipe joining material positioned between an outer surface of the first pipe or pipe fitting and an inner surface of the second pipe or pipe fitting, the pipe joining material comprising:

(i) a thermoplastic material comprising at least one of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC), wherein the thermoplastic material comprises over 75% by weight of the mixture based on the total weight of the mixture; and

(ii) a bonding agent for the thermoplastic material selected from the group consisting of polyamide, ethylene acrylate, ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), polyurethane, polyester, polyolefin, polycaprolactone, soy protein and styrene block co-polymer,

wherein the first pipe or pipe fitting is secured to the second pipe or pipe fitting by the pipe joining material.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the thermoplastic material comprises PVC and CPVC.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the bonding agent comprises polyamide.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the pipe joining material further comprises a plasticizer.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the pipe joining material further comprises a wax.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the pipe joining material further comprises an antioxidant.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the pipe joining material further comprises a conductive powder.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first pipe or pipe fitting is made of PVC or CPVC and the second pipe or pipe fitting is made of PVC or CPVC.
