Passenger airbag
View Patent ↗An airbag includes an inflation side and a vehicle occupant contact side opposite the inflation side, and a divider. The divider has a first portion attached to the inflation side and to the vehicle occupant contact side and a second portion attached to the inflation side and to the vehicle occupant contact side, such that the first and second portions tend to converge from the inflation side toward the occupant contact side.
1. An airbag comprising:
an outer shell defining an interior of the airbag, the outer shell containing an inflation side and a vehicle occupant contact side; and
a divider attached to the outer shell so as to define an upper chamber, a lower chamber separate from the upper chamber, and a gas-receiving chamber in fluid communication with the upper and lower chambers, said divider containing a first portion and a second portion, said second portion connected to the inflation side and the vehicle occupant side, and, said first portion connected to the inflation side and to the second portion at a point spaced apart from the vehicle occupant contact side, said first and second portions converging from said inflation side toward said vehicle occupant side to define said gas-receiving channel,
wherein the divider is structured to enable independent and simultaneous control of each of a gas flow rate from the receiving chamber into the lower chamber and a gas flow rate from the receiving chamber into the upper chamber.
2. An airbag comprising:
an inflation side and a vehicle occupant contact side opposite the inflation side; and
a divider having a first portion and a second portion, said second portion attached to the inflation side and to the vehicle occupant contact side, and, said first portion attached to the inflation side and to the second portion at a location spaced apart from the occupant contact side; and
an upper and lower chamber divided by said divider,
wherein the first portion and the second portion converge to each other as each portion extends toward the vehicle occupant side from the inflation side, and, wherein the divider is structured to enable independent and simultaneous control of the inflation of said upper and lower chambers.
