Abstract

An inflatable convective pad for warming a person during surgery has two ends, two sides, and at least two openings, each located in an area of the pad between the two ends and between a respective side and the center of the pad. The openings, which may be in the form of slits, allow the threading of a sheet or the person's arms through the pad to restrain the arms during surgery.

Claims (17)

1. A combination to secure and warm a patient during surgery, comprising:

a sheet; and,

an inflatable pad including:

first and second layers joined by a seal around a common periphery to form an inflatable structure, at least the first layer being air permeable and including an air permeable surface;

at least one inlet port opening into the inflatable structure;

a head inactive area near a head end of the inflatable pad;

spaced-apart seals between the first and second layers, within the common periphery; and

an arm slit in each of the spaced-apart seals,

wherein the inflatable structure having a body portion below the head inactive area,

wherein each of the spaced-apart seals has a side with a length of at least one-half of a longitudinal length of the body portion of the inflatable structure.

2. The combination of claim 1 , further comprising one or more retaining flaps on the first or the second layer.

3. The combination of claim 1 , further comprising a first inactive area near a first end of the inflatable pad, on the permeable surface.

4. The combination of claim 1 , wherein each arm slit includes an elongate line of weakness in one of the spaced-apart seals.

5. The combination of claim 4 , wherein each line of weakness is selectively opened to define a slit through the inflatable pad.

6. The combination of claim 5 , further comprising retaining flaps underneath sides of the inflatable pad.

7. The combination of claim 1 , wherein the spaced apart seals are parallel.

8. The combination of claim 1 , further comprising a second inactive area near a second end of the inflatable pad, the second end opposing the first end.
