Abstract

The light fixture includes a frame with a bottom assembly and a top assembly coupled to the bottom assembly. The bottom assembly and the top assembly cooperate to form a plurality of channels within the frame. A substantially flat light emitting diode (LED) panel is disposed within the frame. Power circuitry is disposed within at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame. The power circuitry is configured to electrically couple the substantially flat light emitting diode (LED) panel to an external AC power supply. A wire compartment is disposed within at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame. The wire compartment is configured to house wiring electrically coupled to the external AC power supply.

Claims (22)

1. A light fixture comprising:

a frame including a bottom assembly, a top assembly coupled to the bottom assembly, and an L-shaped inside bracket, the bottom assembly and the top assembly cooperating to form a plurality of channels within the frame at edges of the frame, and the L-shaped inside bracket configured to form a bottom and edge surface of at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame, wherein the edge surface separates the at least one of the plurality of channels from a central region at the rear of the lighting fixture;

a substantially flat light emitting diode (LED) panel disposed within the frame;

power circuitry disposed within the at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame, the power circuitry being configured to electrically couple the substantially flat light emitting diode (LED) panel to an external AC power supply, wherein the power circuitry comprises a transformer;

a wire compartment disposed within the at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame, wherein the wire compartment is configured to house AC input wiring electrically coupled to the power circuitry and to the external AC power supply, wherein said L-shaped inside bracket includes a slot through which the AC input wiring is routed between said at least one of the plurality of channels and the central region at the rear of the lighting fixture.

2. The light fixture of claim 1 , wherein the substantially flat light emitting diode (LED) panel includes an optically-transmissive panel and a plurality of LEDs disposed adjacent the optically-transmissive panel and disposed adjacent at least one of the edges of the frame.

3. The light fixture of claim 1 , wherein the bottom assembly of the frame defines an aperture configured to receive the AC input wiring from the external AC power supply.

4. The light fixture of claim 3 , wherein the aperture is configured as a knockout hole.

5. The light fixture of claim 1 , further comprising a shell as a protective structure for the AC input wiring in the wire compartment, positioned within the at least one of the plurality of channels.

6. The light fixture of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the edges of the frame defines the wire compartment and a power supply compartment for the power circuitry separate from the wire compartment.

7. The light fixture of claim 6 , further comprising DC-out wires from the power circuitry routed to connect to an LED strip on another of the edges of the frame than the at least one of the edges of the frame.

8. The light fixture of claim 1 , further comprising a central wire-way disposed adjacent a back surface of the bottom assembly, wherein the central wire-way is configured to route wiring from the wire compartment disposed within the at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame to an opposite one of the edges of the frame.

9. The light fixture of claim 1 , wherein the wire compartment is configured to receive 12 gauge wiring according to the AWG (American Wire Gauge) system.

10. A light fixture comprising:

a frame having a thickness of less than about 1.0 inches, wherein the frame is formed with a plurality of channels within the frame at first and second edges of the frame;

a substantially flat light emitting diode (LED) panel disposed within the frame, wherein the substantially flat light emitting diode (LED) panel includes an optically-transmissive panel for distribution of light received at an edge of the optically transmissive panel from an LED strip, the LED strip comprising a plurality of LEDs disposed adjacent a first edge of the optically-transmissive panel at the first edge of the frame;

power circuitry disposed within at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame between a second edge of the optically transmissive panel and the second edge of the frame, the power circuitry being configured to electrically couple the substantially flat light emitting diode (LED) panel to an external AC power supply via AC input wiring, wherein the power circuitry comprises a transformer;

DC-out wires from the power circuitry at the second edge of the frame, routed to connect to the LED strip comprising the plurality of LEDs disposed adjacent the first edge of the optically-transmissive panel at the first edge of the frame; and

an inside bracket separating the at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame from a central region of the light fixture, said inside bracket including a slot through which the AC input wiring is routed between said at least one of the plurality of channels and the central region of the light fixture.

11. The light fixture of claim 10 , further comprising a wiring compartment including a shell as a protective structure for the AC input wiring in the wire compartment, positioned within the at least one of the plurality of channels within the frame at the second edge of the frame.

12. The light fixture of claim 10 , wherein a bottom assembly of the frame defines a central aperture configured to receive the AC input wiring from the external AC power supply.

13. The light fixture of claim 12 , wherein the light fixture includes a cover positioned over the central aperture.
