Abstract

A number of techniques for improving electronic trading are disclosed. According to some embodiments, a user portal may be provided in an electronic trading system for educational and informational purposes and also to assist investors in configuring their routing or trading preferences for electronic trading orders to be submitted to the electronic trading system.

Claims (19)

1 . A computer-implemented method for electronic trading, the method comprising:

presenting, via a user interface and in connection with an electronic trading system, a questionnaire to solicit answers on an investor's routing or trading preferences for electronic trading orders to be submitted to at least one electronic trading system; and

automatically generating a specification document in accordance with a predetermined format based on the solicited answers, said specification document including information to enable a broker to configure the investor's electronic trade orders.

2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said specification document is formatted at least in part in accordance with Financial Information eXchange (FIX) protocol for electronic trading.

3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein said specification document is in Portable Document Format (PDF).

4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 2 , wherein said specification document is in Extensible Markup Language (XML) format.

5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:

recording, based on the solicited answers, the investor's routing or trading preferences; and

applying the recorded routing or trading preferences to the investor's electronic trading orders subsequently submitted to the at least one electronic trading system.

6 . A computer-implemented apparatus comprising:

at least one computer processor and at least one communication interface that are configured to:

present, via a user interface and in connection with an electronic trading system, a questionnaire to solicit answers on an investor's routing or trading preferences for electronic trading orders to be submitted to at least one electronic trading system; and

automatically generate a specification document in accordance with a predetermined format based on the solicited answers, said specification document including information to enable a broker to configure the investor's electronic trade orders.

7 . The computer-implemented apparatus of claim 6 , wherein said specification document is formatted at least in part in accordance with Financial Information eXchange (FIX) protocol for electronic trading.

8 . The computer-implemented apparatus of claim 7 , wherein said specification document is in Portable Document Format (PDF).

9 . The computer-implemented apparatus of claim 7 , wherein said specification document is in Extensible Markup Language (XML) format.

10 . The computer-implemented apparatus of claim 7 , further comprising:

recording, based on the solicited answers, the investor's routing or trading preferences; and

applying the recorded routing or trading preferences to the investor's electronic trading orders subsequently submitted to the at least one electronic trading system.
