Abstract

A mobile station capable of being served via a first radio access technology (RAT) and a second RAT. The mobile station includes a component configured to receive a permission to identify a cell of the first RAT in absence of a first radio access type neighbor cell list for a serving cell of the second RAT. The mobile station also includes a component configured to identify a cell of the first RAT after receiving the permission.

Claims (31)

1. A mobile station comprising:

a processor; and

a memory containing instructions which, when executed, cause the processor to:

receive, from a previous serving cell of a first radio access technology (RAT), a first permission to cause identification of a cell of the first RAT, wherein the mobile station is associated with a current serving cell of a second RAT, the cell of the first RAT is excluded from a neighbor cell list of the current serving cell of the second RAT, and the first permission comprises priority information of one or more frequencies of the first RAT;

receive a second permission to cause performance of a cell reselection to the cell of the first RAT;

identify the cell of the first RAT based on the priority information of one or more frequencies of the first RAT; and

reselect the cell of the first RAT as a serving cell of the first RAT.

2. The mobile station of claim 1 , wherein the first RAT comprises an evolved universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN).

3. The mobile station of claim 1 , wherein the second RAT comprises a global system for mobile communications (GSM) network, an enhanced data rates for GSM evolution (EDGE) network, or a universal terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN).

4. The mobile station of claim 1 , wherein the instructions when executed further cause the processor to receive a third permission to cause measurement of one or more cells of the first RAT.

5. The mobile station of claim 1 , wherein the first permission and the second permission are linked.

6. The mobile station of claim 5 , wherein the first permission and the second permission are the same according to a linking relationship.

7. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored therein instructions that, when executed by a processor of a mobile station, cause the mobile station to perform operations comprising:

receiving, from a previous serving cell of a first radio access technology (RAT), a first permission to cause identification of a cell of the first RAT, wherein the mobile station is associated with a current serving cell of a second RAT, the cell of the first RAT is excluded from a neighbor cell list of the current serving cell of the second RAT, and the first permission comprises priority information of one or more frequencies of the first RAT;

receiving a second permission to cause performance of a cell reselection to the cell of the first RAT;

identifying the cell of the first RAT based on the priority information of one or more frequencies of the first RAT; and

reselecting the cell of the first RAT as a serving cell of the first RAT.

8. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the first RAT comprises an evolved universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN).

9. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the second RAT comprises a global system for mobile communications (GSM) network, an enhanced data rates for GSM evolution (EDGE) network, or a universal terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN).

10. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium stores further instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the mobile station to perform an operation of receiving a third permission to cause measurement of one or more cells of the first RAT.

11. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 7 , wherein the first permission and the second permission are linked.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 11 , wherein the first permission and the second permission are the same according to a linking relationship.

13. An access device comprising:

a processor; and

a memory containing instructions which, when executed, cause the processor to:

send, to a mobile station, a first permission to cause identification of a cell of a first radio access technology (RAT) by the mobile station, wherein the first permission comprises priority information of one or more frequencies of the first RAT, the mobile station is associated with a current serving cell of a second RAT, the cell of the first RAT is excluded from a neighbor cell list of the current serving cell of the second RAT, and the access device is associated with a previous serving cell of the first RAT for the mobile station; and

send, to the mobile station, a second permission to cause performance of a cell reselection to the cell of the first RAT by the mobile station, wherein the mobile station is to identify the cell of the first RAT based on the priority information of one or more frequencies of the first RAT.

14. The access device of claim 13 , wherein the first RAT comprises an evolved universal terrestrial radio access network (E-UTRAN), and wherein the second RAT comprises a global system for mobile communications (GSM) network, an enhanced data rates for GSM evolution (EDGE) network, or a universal terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN).

15. The access device of claim 13 , wherein the instructions when executed further cause the processor to send, to the mobile station, a third permission to cause measurement of one or more cells of the first RAT by the mobile station.

16. The access device of claim 13 , wherein the first permission and the second permission are linked.

17. The access device of claim 16 , wherein the first permission and the second permission are the same according to a linking relationship.
