Golf club with polymeric insert and adjustable dynamic loft

The body has a face, a crown, and a sole, and the sole at least partially defines an opening in the body. The insert is configured to be secured to the body across the opening such that the body and the insert cooperate to define a closed volume. The insert further defines a bore that is configured to selectively retain an elongate weight.
1. A golf club head comprising:
a body formed from a metallic material, the body including a face, a crown, and a sole, wherein the sole at least partially defines an opening in the body;
an insert formed from a polymeric material, wherein the insert is adhered to the body across the opening in order to permanently retain the insert to the body, and such that at least the face, the crown, the sole, and the insert cooperate to define a closed volume; and
wherein the insert defines a bore that is configured to receive and to selectively retain an elongate weight.
2. The golf club head of claim 1 , further comprising the elongate weight, wherein the weight has a first end, and a second end that is opposite the first end, each of the first end and the second end being disposed along a longitudinal axis of the elongate weight;
wherein the weight is insertable into the bore in either a first orientation or a second orientation;
wherein the first end of the weight makes initial entry into the bore when inserted in the first orientation; and
wherein the second end of the weight makes initial entry into the bore when inserted in the second orientation.
3. The golf club head of claim 2 , wherein the elongate weight has a center of gravity that is closer to the first end than to the second end.
4. The golf club head of claim 2 , wherein a ratio of a total mass of the body to a total mass of the weight is from about 9:1 to about 11:1.
5. The golf club head of claim 2 , wherein a ratio of a total mass of the insert to a total mass of the weight is from about 1:1 to about 2:1.
6. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the bore has a longitudinal axis; and
wherein the longitudinal axis of the bore intersects the face of the body.
7. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight has a total mass of from about 10 g to about 20 g.
8. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the weight has a length measured along the longitudinal axis of from about 55 mm to about 80 mm.
9. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the opening has a total area of greater than about 3000 mm 2 .
10. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the insert has a total mass of at least about 15 g.
11. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the polymeric material has a tensile strength of at least about 180 MPa.
12. The golf club head of claim 11 , wherein the polymeric material is a carbon-filled aliphatic polyamide.
13. The golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the ratio of the total mass of the body to the total mass of the insert is from about 6:1 to about 8.5:1.
14. A golf club head comprising:
a body formed from a metallic material, the body including a face, a crown, and a sole, wherein the sole at least partially defines an opening in the body, the opening having a total area of greater than about 3000 mm 2. ;
an insert formed from a polymeric material, wherein the insert is adhered to the body across the opening in order to permanently retain the insert to the body, and such that at least the face, the crown, the sole, and the insert cooperate to define a closed volume;
wherein the insert defines a bore that is configured to receive and to selectively retain an elongate weight.
15. The golf club of claim 14 , further comprising an elongate weight that is configured to be retained within the bore in either of a first orientation or a second orientation;
wherein a first end of the weight makes initial entry into the bore in the first orientation; and
wherein a second end of the weight makes initial entry into the bore in the second orientation.
16. The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein a ratio of a total mass of the body to a total mass of the weight is from about 9:1 to about 11:1; and
wherein a ratio of a total mass of the insert to the total mass of the weight is from about 1:1 to about 2:1.
17. The golf club head of claim 15 , wherein the weight has a total mass of from about 10 g to about 20 g; and
wherein the weight has a length measured along the longitudinal axis of from about 55mm to about 80 mm.
18. A golf club head comprising:
a body formed from a metallic material, the body including a face, a crown, and a sole, wherein the sole at least partially defines an opening in the body,
an insert formed from a polymeric material, wherein the insert is adhered to the body across the opening in order to permanently retain the insert to the body, and such that at least the face, the crown, the sole, and the insert cooperate to define a closed volume;
wherein the insert defines a bore having a longitudinal axis that intersects the face of the body;
an elongate weight that is configured to be selectively retained within the bore in either of a first orientation or a second orientation;
wherein a first end of the weight makes initial entry into the bore in the first orientation; and
wherein a second end of the weight makes initial entry into the bore in the second orientation.
19. The golf club head of claim 18 , wherein a ratio of a total mass of the body to a total mass of the weight is from about 9:1 to about 11:1; and
wherein a ratio of a total mass of the insert to the total mass of the weight is from about 1:1 to about 2:1.
20. The golf club head of claim 18 , wherein the weight has a total mass of from about 10 g to about 20 g; and
wherein the weight has a length measured along the longitudinal axis of from about 55mm to about 80 mm.
