Abstract

Systems and methods for automatically capturing, uploading, and publishing content are disclosed. An example method includes controlling, from a first computing device located at a first site, a second device located at the first site in accordance with a command issued by a user to a third computing device located at a second site; when the user is currently logged-on to a user interface associated with the third computing device, polling the third computing device for commands at a first frequency; and when the user is not currently logged-on to the user interface associated with the third computing device, polling the third computing device for commands at a second frequency less frequent than the first frequency.

Claims (40)

1 . A method comprising:

controlling, from a first computing device located at a first site, a second device located at the first site in accordance with a command issued by a user to a third computing device located at a second site;

when the user is currently logged-on to a user interface associated with the third computing device, polling the third computing device for commands at a first frequency; and

when the user is not currently logged-on to the user interface associated with the third computing device, polling the third computing device for commands at a second frequency less frequent than the first frequency.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein polling the third computing device comprises obtaining the commands from a queue maintained at the third computing device.

3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface comprises a web page including options corresponding to the commands.

4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising developing a usage pattern associated with the user, the usage pattern indicative of interactions between the user and the user interface.

5 . The method of claim 4 , further comprising setting a value of the second frequency based on the usage pattern.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

the first computing device comprises a network interface via which the first computing device communicates with the third computing device through a network;

the second device comprises a home appliance; and

the third computing device comprises a server.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the command comprises an instruction including state information for the second device.

8 . A first computing device located at a first site, the first computing device comprising:

a memory comprising machine readable instructions; and

a processor to execute the instructions to perform operations comprising:

controlling a second device located at the first site in accordance with a command issued by a user to a third computing device located at a second site;

when the user is currently logged-on to a user interface associated with the third computing device, polling the third computing device for commands at a first frequency; and

when the user is not currently logged-on to the user interface associated with the third computing device, polling the third computing device for commands at a second frequency less frequent than the first frequency.

9 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein polling the third computing device comprises obtaining the commands from a queue maintained at the third computing device.

10 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the user interface comprises a web page including options corresponding to the commands.

11 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise developing a usage pattern associated with the user, the usage pattern indicative of interactions between the user and the user interface.

12 . The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the operations further comprise setting a value of the second frequency based on the usage pattern.

13 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein:

the first computing device comprises a network interface via which the first computing device communicates with the third computing device through a network;

the second device comprises a home appliance; and

the third computing device comprises a server.

14 . The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the command comprises an instruction including state information for the second device.

15 . A machine readable storage device comprising instructions that, when executed, cause a first computing device located at a first site to perform operations comprising:

controlling a second device located at the first site in accordance with a command issued by a user to a third computing device located at a second site;

when the user is currently logged-on to a user interface associated with the third computing device, polling the third computing device for commands at a first frequency; and

when the user is not currently logged-on to the user interface associated with the third computing device, polling the third computing device for commands at a second frequency less frequent than the first frequency.

16 . The storage device of claim 15 , wherein polling the third computing device comprises obtaining the commands from a queue maintained at the third computing device.

17 . The storage device of claim 15 , wherein the user interface comprises a web page including options corresponding to the commands.

18 . The storage device of claim 15 , wherein the operations further comprise developing a usage pattern associated with the user, the usage pattern indicative of interactions between the user and the user interface.

19 . The storage device of claim 18 , wherein the operations further comprise setting a value of the second frequency based on the usage pattern.

20 . The storage device of claim 15 , wherein:

the first computing device comprises a network interface via which the first computing device communicates with the third computing device through a network;

the second device comprises a home appliance; and

the third computing device comprises a server.
