Abstract

Disclosed herein are method of treating pain using comprising RANK/RANKL antagonists.

Claims (20)

1. A method of treating pain comprising administering a polypeptide or a protein to relieve pain in a mammal in need thereof, wherein the polypeptide or the protein is a RANK/RANKL antagonist, wherein the pain is osteoarthritis pain and the RANK/RANKL antagonist is denosumab.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein, within a period of about six months, about 0.1 mg/kg to about 20 mg/kg of denosumab is administered to the mammal.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein, within a period of about six months, about 0.5 mg/kg to about 2 mg/kg of denosumab is administered to the mammal.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the denosumab is administered once every six months.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mammal is a human being.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pain is associated with osteoarthritis of the knee.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the osteoarthritis affects a knee or hip.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the osteoarthritis affects an elbow, a shoulder, a wrist, or a finger.

9. A method of treating pain comprising administering a polypeptide or a protein to relieve pain in a mammal in need thereof, wherein the polypeptide or the protein is a RANK/RANKL antagonist, wherein the pain is complex regional pain syndrome and the RANK/RANKL antagonist is denosumab.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein, within a period of about six months, about 0.1 mg/kg to about 20 mg/kg of denosumab is administered to the mammal.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein, within a period of about six months, about 0.5 mg/kg to about 2 mg/kg of denosumab is administered to the mammal.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the denosumab is administered once every six months.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the mammal is a human being.

14. A method of treating pain comprising administering a polypeptide or a protein to relieve pain in a mammal in need thereof, wherein the polypeptide or the protein is a RANK/RANKL antagonist, wherein the pain is low back pain and the RANK/RANKL antagonist is denosumab.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the pain is chronic low back pain.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the low back pain is associated with Modic changes.

17. The method of claim 14 , wherein, within a period of about six months, about 0.1 mg/kg to about 20 mg/kg of denosumab is administered to the mammal.

18. The method of claim 14 , wherein, within a period of about six months, about 0.5 mg/kg to about 2 mg/kg of denosumab is administered to the mammal.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the denosumab is administered once every six months.

20. The method of claim 14 , wherein the mammal is a human being.
