Abstract

The embodiments are directed to methods and systems for sending and receiving signals between one or more peripheral devices connected to a dongle system and an operating system. The methods and systems can detect when a dongle system has been connected to a mobile computing device. The methods and systems can receive an input to use the dongle system with a local operating system or a remote operating system. The methods and systems can also establish a communication channel between the local operating system and the remote operating system, and exchange signals between the dongle system and the remote operating system using one or more virtual filters.

Claims (27)

1. A method performed by a dongle system configured to send and receive signals between one or more peripheral devices connected to the dongle system and a local operating system installed on a mobile computing device, which is communicatively coupled to a remote desktop client remote from the mobile computing device and the one or more peripheral devices, the method comprising:

receiving, via the dongle system, one or more signals from the one or more peripheral devices;

receiving, via the dongle system, one or more signals from a remote operating system via the local operating system running on the mobile computing device, wherein the remote operating system is hosted on the remote desktop client;

translate, at one or more virtual filters installed on the dongle system, one or more interrupts corresponding to the received one or more signals received from the one or more peripheral device into one or more instructions that are formatted for the remote operating system; and

sending the translated one or more instructions to the mobile computing device for providing the translated one or more instructions to the remote operating system.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein sending the translated one or more instructions to the mobile computing device further comprises:

sending the translated one or more instructions over a first established communication channel between the one or more virtual filters and a virtual desktop infrastructure endpoint on the mobile computing device, wherein the virtual desktop infrastructure communicates with the remote operating system over a second communication channel.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising translating, at one or more virtual filters installed on the dongle system, one or more interrupts corresponding to the received one or more signals received from the remote operating system into one or more instructions that are formatted for the one or more peripheral devices.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the translated one or more instructions sent to the mobile computing device are multiplexed using Time Division Multiplexing.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the translated one or more instructions sent to the mobile computing device are multiplexed using Frequency Division Multiplexing.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising enabling the one or more virtual filters to exchange signals between a virtual device agent application and the one or more peripheral devices.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the virtual device agent application comprises one or more processes enabling the local operating system to communicate with the remote operating system.

8. The method of one of claim 6 or claim 7 , further comprising exchanging signals between the dongle system and the remote operating system via the mobile computing device by exchanging signals between the one or more virtual filters and the virtual device agent application.

9. A dongle system configured to communicate with one or more peripheral devices and a local operating system installed on a mobile computing device, which is communicatively coupled to a remote desktop client remote from the mobile computing device and the one or more peripheral devices, the dongle system comprising:

a first connector configured to receive one or more signals from a remote operating system via the local operating system running on the mobile computing device, wherein the remote operating system is hosted on the remote desktop agent;

one or more peripheral connectors configured to acquire one or more signals from the one or more peripheral devices communicatively connected to the dongle system; and

one or more virtual filters configured to translate interrupts corresponding to the received one or more signals received from the one or more peripheral device into instructions that are formatted for the remote operating system,

wherein the first connector provides the translated instructions to the mobile computing device for providing the translated instructions to the remote operating system.

10. The dongle system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more signals received from the one or more peripheral devices can be received over a Universal Standard Bus communication channel associated with the one or more peripheral connectors.

11. The dongle system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more signals received over the first connector are received on a single input channel between the dongle system and the mobile computing device.

12. The dongle system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more signals received over the first connector are disaggregated into signals corresponding to the peripheral devices.

13. The dongle system of claim 11 , wherein the one or more signals received from the one or more peripheral devices are aggregated into a single signal and sent over the first connector using the mobile computing device for providing to the remote operating system.

14. The dongle system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more peripheral connectors communicate with the one or more peripheral devices via wired or wireless communication means.

15. The dongle system of claim 9 , wherein the first connector communicates with the mobile computing device via wired or wireless communication means.

16. The dongle system of claim 9 , wherein the one or more virtual filters are further configured to:

demultiplex the one or more signals received over the first connector from the remote operating system via the local operating system on the mobile computing device; and

forward the demultiplexed signals to the one or more peripheral connectors for providing to the one or more peripheral devices.
