Abstract

Methods and systems for intelligently cropping images, including receiving, over a computer network, a source image, and then associating a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image. A cropped image is generated from the source image wherein the cropping is based on the first object. The system and method then notifying a first user that the first identifier tag is associated with the first object in the cropped image, wherein the notification includes the cropped image.

Claims (32)

1. A computer-implemented method for intelligently cropping images, comprising:

receiving, over a computer network, a source image from a first user;

associating a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image and a second identifier tag with a second object in the source image;

generating a first composite cropped image from the source image for use in a notification to the first user, based on the first object and the second object and one or more pre-defined rules including a minimum face size; and

notifying the first user that the first identifier tag is associated with the first object in the source image, wherein the notification includes the first composite cropped image based on the first object and the second object.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the associating comprises receiving the first identifier tag.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the first identifier tag is received from a second user.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the second user is a social media connection of the first user.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the associating is performed by computer-based recognition.

6. A system to intelligently crop images, the system comprising a network interface and a machine-readable medium including instructions that when operated upon by a machine cause the machine to:

receive, over a computer network, via the network interface, a source image;

associate a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image and associate a second identifier tag with a second object in the source image;

generate a first composite cropped image from the source image for use in a notification to a first user, based on the first object and the second object and one or more pre-defined rules including a person's face or an object meeting a threshold size; and

notify the first user that the first identifier tag is associated with the first object in the source image, wherein the notification includes the first composite cropped image.

The system of claim 6 , wherein the instructions that cause the machine to associate a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image and associate a second identifier tag with a second object in the source image further cause the machine to receive the first identifier tag from a second user.

The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions that cause the machine to associate a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image and associate a second identifier tag with a second object in the source image further cause the machine to receive the second identifier tag from the second user.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the second user is a social media connection of the first user.

10. The system of claim 6 , wherein the source image is received from the first user.

11. The system of claim 6 , wherein the source image is received from a second user.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the second user is a social media connection of the first user.

13. The system of claim 6 , wherein the instructions that cause the machine to associate a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image and associate a second identifier tag with a second object in the source image further are performed with computer-based image recognition.

14. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing a computer program to intelligently crop images, the computer program executable by at least one processor, the computer program including instructions that cause the at least one processor to perform operations comprising:

receive, over a computer network, a source image;

associate a first identifier tag with a first object in the source image and a second identifier tag with a second object in the source image;

generate a first composite cropped image from the source image for use in a notification to a first user, based on the first object and the second object and one or more pre-defined rules including a person's face or an object meeting a threshold size; and

notify the first user that the first identifier tag is associated with the first object in the source image, wherein the notification includes the first composite cropped image.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the instructions that cause the at least one processor to associate the first identifier tag with the first object are performed by receiving a tag from a second user.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the second user is a social media connection of the first user.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 16 , wherein the source image is received from the first user.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the source image is received from a second user.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 18 , wherein the second user is a social media connection of the first user.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the instructions that cause the at least one processor to associate the first identifier tag with the first object are performed with computer-based image recognition.
