Method for inserting and removing cables
A method for installing and removing a row of cables from a cable array is provided. The method includes providing an installation tool having a first body with a plurality of arms extending from one side. The plurality of arms being configured to receive a cable connector body, the plurality of arms including at least one first projection extending from one of the plurality of arms. The installation tool is moved onto a row of cables held coupled together by a bracket, each of the cables in the row of cables having a cable connector body. The connector bodies are engaged into receptacles and the bracket is moved with the at least one first projection.
1. A method comprising:
providing an installation tool having a first body with a first plurality of arms and a second plurality of arms extending from one side, the first and second plurality of arms being configured to receive a cable connector body, each of the second plurality of arms including a first projection extending therefrom, each of the second plurality of arms further including a flange on one side, the flange being substantially perpendicular to the second plurality of arms;
moving the installation tool onto a row of cables held coupled together by a bracket, each of the cables in the row of cables having a cable connector body, each of the flanges contacting the bracket;
engaging the connector bodies into receptacles; and
moving the bracket with each of the first projections and flanges.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
providing a removal tool having a second body, the second body having a plurality of second projections, the plurality of second projections being arranged in a pairs, each of pairs being configured to engage a tab member on the cable connector body;
moving the removal tool onto the cable connector body on the row of cables, each of the cable connector bodies having an associated tab member;
engaging each of the pairs on the associated tab member;
moving the removal tool away from the receptacles; and
disengaging the connector bodies from the receptacles.
3. The method of claim 2 wherein the first body includes a first opening sized to receive an operator's fingers.
4. The method of claim 3 wherein the second body including a second opening sized to receive the operators fingers.
5. The method of claim 4 wherein the second body includes a plurality of ribs on a side opposite the plurality of second projections.
6. The method of claim 5 wherein the plurality of ribs are positioned between adjacent cables when the removal tool is moved onto the row of cables.
