Abstract

An ultrasonic consumption meter includes two ultrasonic transducers for emitting and receiving ultrasonic waves, a flow channel, an electronic circuit for operating the meter, and a housing for the ultrasonic transducers and the electronic circuit. The housing is locked in position relative to the flow channel by a locking mechanism, and the flow channel has two holes for allowing the housing to get into contact with a media flowing in the flow channel.

Claims (26)

1. An ultrasonic consumption meter comprising:

a flow channel for a media to be measured;

two ultrasonic transducers for emitting and receiving ultrasound;

an electronic circuit for operating the meter; and,

a housing for the transducers and the electronic circuit;

wherein the ultrasonic consumption meter comprises a locking mechanism that locks the housing in position relative to the flow channel; and

wherein the flow channel has two holes for the housing to get into contact with the media.

2. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , wherein sealing is arranged between the flow channel and the housing.

3. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 2 , wherein the sealing comprises O-rings.

4. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 2 , wherein said sealing comprises two seals which are arranged around each of said two holes, respectively.

5. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 4 , wherein said two seals are two O-rings.

6. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , wherein said housing and said two holes are arranged so as to allow those parts of the housing, in which said two transducers are situated, to get into contact with the media.

7. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , wherein said two holes are arranged at a line parallel to the length of the flow channel.

8. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , wherein said two holes are arranged on the same side of the flow channel.

9. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , wherein said two holes are arranged at a line parallel to the length of the flow channel; and wherein reflectors for redirecting ultrasonic waves are arranged inside said flow channel so that ultrasonic waves emitted by a first of said two ultrasound transducers at a first of said two holes is redirected to be received by a second of said two ultrasound transducers at a second of said two holes.

10. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , wherein said electronic circuit is arranged to operate said ultrasonic consumption meter according to a transit time principle.

11. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the locking mechanism consists of one or more protrusions on the housing, one or more protrusions on the flow channel, and one or more locking pins.

12. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the locking mechanism is designed so that the one or more locking pins is inserted and extracted by a movement parallel to the length of the flow channel.

13. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the locking mechanism is designed so that the one or more locking pins is inserted and extracted by a movement perpendicular to the length of the flow channel.

14. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the consumption meter is a water meter.

15. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the consumption meter is a gas meter.

16. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the housing consists of a cup, a lid and a hermetical seal.

17. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the one or more locking pins are secured by a seal.

18. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the electronic circuit includes a pressure sensitive device.

19. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which an insert in the flow channel is fixed in its position by one or more features on the housing.

20. The ultrasonic consumption meter according to claim 1 , in which the housing is impenetrated by electrical wires.
