Abstract

An animal deterrent device includes an elongated carrier having an internal cavity. A conductive trace can be coupled to the carrier by a first fastener that extends from the conductive trace to the cavity, which prevents water from contacting the fastener and shorting the conductive trace.

Claims (21)

1. A method of providing an animal deterrent device comprising the steps of:

extruding an elongated carrier having a top wall, a bottom wall, and an internal cavity disposed between the top and bottom walls;

wherein the internal cavity comprises an outlet;

attaching a first conductive trace to the top wall of the elongated carrier using a first fastener that extends from the first conductive trace through the top wall to the internal cavity, wherein the first conductive trace is attached by stitching the first conductive trace to the top wall of the elongated carrier using the first fastener, such that the internal cavity comprises a plurality of stitches;

stitching a second conductive trace to the elongated carrier using a second fastener that extends from the second conductive trace through the top wall of the elongated carrier to the internal cavity; and

wherein the internal cavity extends beneath each of the first and second conductive traces.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the internal cavity is at least partially disposed beneath the first conductive trace.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the internal cavity is disposed at least partially beneath each of the first and second conductive traces.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the elongated carrier further comprises an elevated arc suppressor disposed between the first and second traces.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the elongated carrier has sufficient flexibility to allow the carrier to be deformed.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first conductive trace comprises a braided wire.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first conductive trace comprises a knitted wire.

8. A method of manufacturing an animal deterrent device comprising the steps of:

extruding an elongated carrier having a top wall and a bottom wall, and further comprising an internal cavity comprising a hollow, interior portion of the carrier that is disposed between the top wall and bottom wall, and an outlet;

stitching first and second conductive traces to the top wall of the elongated carrier using first and second fasteners, respectively, wherein each of the first and second fasteners extends through the top wall of the elongated carrier to the internal cavity below; and

wherein the internal cavity extends beneath each of the first and second conductive traces.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the elongated carrier comprises an elevated arc suppressor disposed between the first and second conductive traces.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first conductive trace is attached to the carrier using the first fastener, such that each of the first conductive trace and the internal cavity comprises a plurality of stitches.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first conductive trace comprises a braided wire.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first conductive trace comprises a knitted wire.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the elongated carrier has sufficient flexibility to allow the carrier to be deformed.
