Apparatus for production of polymeric nanofibers
View Patent ↗The present invention is directed toward an apparatus comprising a high speed rotating disk or bowl for nanofiber spinning from the rotational sheared thin film fibrillation at the enclosed serrations with the optimized stretching zone to produce the defects-free nanofibrous web and nanofibrous membrane comprising a nanofiber network with a number average nanofiber diameter less than 500 nm that yield the crystallinity higher than the polymer resin used in making the web.
1. A spinning apparatus for making polymeric nanofibers, comprising:
(a) a high speed rotating member comprising a spinning disk or a spinning bowl, mounted on a rotating hollow shaft, wherein the rotating member has an edge, the edge having serrations thereon, and, optionally, the rotating member can be heated by induction heating;
(b) a protecting shield placed to contact the serrations on the edge of the rotating member to form enclosed serrations wherein the protecting shield is mounted on the top of the spinning disk or the bottom of the spinning bowl;
(c) a stationary shield on the bottom of the rotating member, mounted on a stationary shaft through the rotating hollow shaft; and
(d) an optional stretching zone.
