Abstract

Technologies for network and device management are disclosed. A described technique includes mapping a local network associated with a user to create a network map of one or more discovered devices that are communicatively coupled with the local network; determining device information about the one or more discovered devices, the device information including one or more device identifications corresponding to the one or more discovered devices; storing the network map and the device information in a profile associated with the user; and providing a centralized management interface for managing the one or more discovered devices. The interface can be configured to present information including the network map, the device information, and one or more notifications. The one or more notifications can be based on an analysis of the device information and the network map.

Claims (77)

1. A method comprising:

mapping a local network associated with a user account to create a network map of one or more discovered devices that are communicatively coupled with the local network;

determining one or more device identifiers for the one or more discovered devices;

determining device information about the one or more discovered devices, wherein determining the device information comprises retrieving device data from a management server based on the one or more device identifiers and the user account, the management server being configured to store information for a plurality of user accounts and respective network maps;

storing the network map and the device information in a profile associated with the user account; and

providing a centralized management interface for managing the one or more discovered devices, the interface being configured to present information comprising the network map, the device information, and one or more notifications, the one or more notifications being based on an analysis of the device information and the network map.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device data comprise information that is selected from a group comprising product catalog device data, device warranty data, device backup data, and device pricing information.

3. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

providing to a device associated with the local network, a management application, the management application being configured to (i) map the local network by at least scanning for devices using one or more wireless communication protocols via one or more wireless network interfaces and (ii) render the centralized management interface,

wherein mapping the local network comprises receiving data about the local network from the management application, and

wherein providing the centralized management interface comprises sending the device information to the management application, and sending the one or more notifications to the management application.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining device information comprises:

operating a device in a monitoring mode to gather network traffic from the local network; and

extracting data from the network traffic,

wherein the device information comprises one or more device types that are determined based on the extracted data.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein providing the centralized management interface comprises one or more of the following:

providing an interface to display warranty information about the one or more discovered devices,

providing an interface to display resale pricing information about the one or more discovered devices,

providing an interface to facilitate access to a service resource for repairing or providing advice related to at least one of the one or more discovered devices, or

providing an interface to secure digital information across multiple different devices, platforms, or cloud services associated with the local network.

6. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

receiving via the centralized management interface a selection of a service request from a user for at least one of the one or more discovered devices;

identifying a service based on the service request;

identifying a device based on the service request;

populating a form with information related to the identified device and the identified service;

determining a candidate service entity for performing the identified service on the identified device; and

scheduling the identified service with the candidate service entity, wherein the one or more notifications comprise a schedule notification that is associated with the scheduling.

7. An apparatus comprising:

circuitry configured to send or receive data via one or more portions of a local network associated with a user account; and

a processor configured to (i) map the local network to create a network map of one or more discovered devices that are communicatively coupled with the local network, (ii) determine device information about the one or more discovered devices, (iii) store the network map and the device information in a profile associated with the user account, and (iv) provide a centralized management interface for managing the one or more discovered devices, the interface being configured to present information comprising the network map, the device information, and one or more notifications, the one or more notifications being based on an analysis of the device information and the network map, wherein the processor is configured to determine one or more device identifiers for the one or more discovered devices, and retrieve device data from a management server based on the one or more device identifiers and the user account, the management server being configured to store information for a plurality of user accounts and respective network maps.

8. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the device data comprise information that is selected from a group comprising product catalog device data, device warranty data, device backup data, and device pricing information.

The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the processor is configured to execute a management application that is configured to (i) map the local network by at least scanning for devices using one or more wireless communication protocols via one or more wireless network interfaces and (ii) render the centralized management interface.

The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the processor is configured to operate the apparatus in a monitoring mode to gather network traffic from the local network, and extract data from the network traffic to determine one or more device types, and wherein the device information comprises the one or more device types.

11. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the processor is configured to perform one or more of the following operations:

providing an interface to display warranty information about the one or more discovered devices,

providing an interface to display resale pricing information about the one or more discovered devices,

providing an interface to facilitate access to a service resource for repairing or providing advice related to at least one of the one or more discovered devices, or

providing an interface to secure digital information across multiple different devices, platforms, or cloud services associated with the local network.

12. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the processor is configured to perform operations comprising:

receiving via the centralized management interface a selection of a service request from a user for at least one of the one or more discovered devices;

identifying a service based on the service request;

identifying a device based on the service request;

populating a form with information related to the identified device and the identified service;

determining a candidate service entity for performing the identified service on the identified device; and

scheduling the identified service with the candidate service entity, wherein the one or more notifications comprise a schedule notification that is associated with the scheduling.

13. The apparatus of claim 7 , wherein the local network comprises one or more wireless local area networks and one or more Bluetooth wireless networks.

14. A system comprising:

a network interface configured to communicate with devices; and

a processor configured to store applications, including a management application, for download to the devices via the network interface,

wherein the management application comprises instructions to cause a device to perform operations comprising:

mapping a local network associated with a user account to create a network map of one or more discovered devices that are communicatively coupled with the local network;

determining one or more device identifiers for the one or more discovered devices;

determining device information about the one or more discovered devices, wherein determining the device information comprises retrieving device data from a management server based on the one or more device identifiers and the user account, the management server being configured to store information for a plurality of user accounts and respective network maps;

storing the network map and the device information in a profile associated with the user account; and

providing a centralized management interface for managing the one or more discovered devices, the interface being configured to present information comprising the network map, the device information, and one or more notifications, the one or more notifications being based on an analysis of the device information and the network map.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the device data comprise information that is selected from a group comprising product catalog device data, device warranty data, device backup data, and device pricing information.

16. The system of claim 14 , comprising:

the management server, wherein the management server is configured to analyze the local network, store data about the local network, and provide the one or more notifications to the management application,

wherein the management application is configured to (i) map the local network by at least scanning for devices using one or more wireless communication protocols via one or more wireless network interfaces and (ii) render the centralized management interface, and

wherein mapping the local network comprises exchanging data about the local network with the management server.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein determining the device information comprises:

operating a device in a monitoring mode to gather network traffic from the local network; and

extracting data from the network traffic,

wherein the device information comprises one or more device types that are determined based on the extracted data.

18. The system of claim 14 , wherein providing the centralized management interface comprises one or more of the following:

providing an interface to display warranty information about the one or more discovered devices,

providing an interface to display resale pricing information about the one or more discovered devices,

providing an interface to facilitate access to a service resource for repairing or providing advice related to at least one of the one or more discovered devices, or

providing an interface to secure digital information across multiple different devices, platforms, or cloud services associated with the local network.

19. The system of claim 14 , the operations comprising:

receiving via the centralized management interface a selection of a service request from a user for at least one of the one or more discovered devices;

identifying a service based on the service request;

identifying a device based on the service request;

populating a form with information related to the identified device and the identified service;

determining a candidate service entity for performing the identified service on the identified device; and

scheduling the identified service with the candidate service entity, wherein the one or more notifications comprise a schedule notification that is associated with the scheduling.

20. The system of claim 14 , wherein the local network comprises one or more wireless local area networks and one or more Bluetooth wireless networks.
