Abstract

A flow of hydraulic oil induced by sliding movement of a piston in a cylinder is controlled by a pilot-type main valve and a pilot valve, which is a pressure control valve, to generate a damping force. The pilot valve is adjusted in its valve-opening pressure with the thrust of a solenoid and adjusts the pressure in a back pressure chamber to control the valve-opening pressure of the main valve. A baffle plate is provided in a reservoir to isolate the surface of hydraulic oil in the reservoir from an inlet port through which the hydraulic oil flows into the reservoir from a damping force generating mechanism, thereby suppressing the occurrence of aeration and cavitation. The baffle plate is secured by inserting a connecting port through a positioning opening and holding a separator tube with a pair of arm portions.

Claims (20)

1. A shock absorber configured to be mounted between two relatively movable members, the shock absorber comprising:

a cylinder having a hydraulic liquid sealed therein;

a piston inserted in the cylinder and dividing an interior of the cylinder into two chambers;

a piston rod connected to the piston and extending to an outside of the cylinder;

an outer tube provided around an outer periphery of the cylinder;

a reservoir formed between the cylinder and the outer tube and having the hydraulic liquid and a gas sealed therein;

a connecting tube disposed between the cylinder and the outer tube, the connecting tube being in communication with the interior of the cylinder;

a damping force generating mechanism disposed outside the outer tube and connected to the connecting tube; and

an inlet port provided on the outer tube to allow the hydraulic liquid to flow from the damping force generating mechanism into the reservoir,

wherein a partition member is provided in the reservoir, the partition member having a partition that limits an upward flow of the hydraulic liquid from the inlet port with the shock absorber being mounted between the two members,

wherein the partition member includes a positioning opening, and the partition includes an upper portion that surrounds an upper portion of the positioning opening and opposite side portions that surround both sides of the positioning opening,

wherein the shock absorber includes a portion provided so as to radially extend between the connecting tube and the damping force generating mechanism,

wherein the positioning opening extends through the partition member in a direction of a wall thickness of the partition member, and

wherein the positioning opening is fittingly disposed around an outer periphery of the portion provided so as to radially extend between the connecting tube and the damping force generating mechanism to position the partition member.

2. The shock absorber of claim 1 , wherein the partition member has:

a plate portion in a shape of a plate having the positioning opening; and

an elastic member fixedly attached to the plate portion to serve as the partition, the elastic member extending in a direction that allows the elastic member to contact an inner peripheral surface of the outer tube or the elastic member to be disposed adjacent to the inner peripheral surface of the outer tube.

3. The shock absorber of claim 1 , wherein the partition extends in a direction toward an inner peripheral surface of the outer tube, and the opposite side portions of the partition extend downwardly beyond a lower end of the inlet port.

4. The shock absorber of claim 2 , wherein the partition extends in a direction toward an inner peripheral surface of the outer tube, and the opposite side portions of the partition extend downwardly beyond a lower end of the inlet port.

5. The shock absorber of claim 1 , wherein the connecting tube is a separator tube provided concentrically around the outer periphery of the cylinder, and the partition member includes a portion that extends and is curved along an outer peripheral surface of the separator tube to be fitted to the outer peripheral surface of the separator tube.
