Abstract

An embodiment of the present invention relates to a composition comprising a) at least one transparent thermoplastic material; b) at least one inorganic IR absorber comprising at least one boride compound present in an amount of from 0.0015 wt. % to 0.015 wt. %, calculated as solids content of boride in the total polymer composition; and c) at least one inorganic, nano-scale pigment present in an amount of from 0.0008 wt. % to 0.0035 wt. %, based on the total composition; and d) optionally further additives.

Claims (20)

1. A finished part comprising a composition comprising

a. at least one polycarbonate;

b. at least one inorganic IR absorber comprising at least one boride compound comprises LaB 6 present in an amount of from 0.00430 wt. % to 0.00667 wt. %, calculated as solids content of boride in the total polymer composition; and

c. at least one inorganic, nano-scale pigment comprising carbon black present in an amount of from 0.00167 wt. % to 0.00250 wt. %, based on the total composition; and

d. optionally further additives, wherein the finished part has a thickness of 4 to 6 mm, and wherein the finished part has a b* (60°) value of from −2.5 to 0.

2. The finished part according to claim 1 , wherein the ratio of b) to c) is from 20:1 to 0.4:1.

3. The finished part according to claim 1 , wherein the ratio of b) to c) is from 5:1 to 1.5:1.

4. The finished part according to claim 1 , wherein the carbon black has a mean particle size of less than 100 nm.

5. The finished part according to claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises triphenylphosphine.

6. The finished part according to claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises at least one additive selected from the group consisting of ultraviolet absorbers, colouring agents, demoulding agents, flameproofing agents and heat stabilizers.

7. An automobile, railway vehicle, aircraft or architectural glazing comprising the finished part according to claim 1 .

8. The finished part according to claim 1 having a transmission of at least 6% and a haze of less than 2%.

9. The finished part according to claim 1 wherein the finished part has a thickness of 4 to 6 mm.

10. A method comprising adding carbon black to a polymer composition comprising at least one polycarbonate;

at least one inorganic IR absorber comprising at least one boride compound comprises LaB 6 present in an amount of 0.00430 wt. % to 0.00667 wt. %, calculated as solids content of boride in the total polymer composition; and

at least one inorganic, nano-scale pigment present in an amount of from 0.00167 wt.% to 0.00250 wt. %, based on the total composition; and

optionally further additives,

wherein the scattering caused by the nano-scale particles is reduced,

and forming a finished part having a thickness from 4 to 6 mm from the composition,

wherein the finished part has a b* (60°) value of from −2.5 to 0.
