Devices, systems and methods for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia and other conditions
View Patent ↗Devices, systems and methods for compressing, cutting, incising, reconfiguring, remodeling, attaching, repositioning, supporting, dislocating or altering the composition of tissues or anatomical structures to alter their positional or force relationship to other tissues or anatomical structures. In some applications, the invention may be used to used to improve patency or fluid flow through a body lumen or cavity (e.g., to limit constriction of the urethra by an enlarged prostate gland).
1. A system for treating a condition where a prostate tissue or anatomical structure causes constriction or interferes with an urethra in the body of a human or animal subject, said system comprising:
an implant delivery device positionable within the urethra, the implant delivery device including a working lumen having a distal section that curves in a direction transverse to a longitudinal axis of the implant delivery device and a scope lumen connected to the working lumen;
an implant housed at least partially within the implant delivery device, the implant comprising a proximal anchor connected to a distal anchor by a tensioning element wherein the proximal anchor comprises a device that is a) placed at a site of final deployed configuration in tissue before it the proximal anchor is connected to the tensioning member and b) is configured to facilitate connection of the tensioning member thereto after the proximal anchor has been placed at a site of final deployed configuration in tissue; and
a penetrating member configured to penetrate an urethral wall and a lobe of a prostate gland from within the urethra in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the implant delivery device, and configured to deliver one or more of the proximal anchor, distal anchor, or tensioning element to prostate tissue.
2. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a crumpling anchor.
3. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises T shaped anchor.
4. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a bow shaped anchor.
5. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a cross shaped anchor.
6. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a woven fabric, screen, textile, paper or other porous material.
7. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises an adhesive.
8. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a plurality of arms extending outwardly from a central hub.
9. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a spiral anchor.
10. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors is configured to generally conform to the shape of an anatomical structure against which it is intended to rest.
11. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a screw.
12. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a plurality of splayable members.
13. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a molly bolt anchor.
14. A system according to claim 1 wherein at least one of the proximal and distal anchors comprises a spring.
15. A system according to claim 1 wherein the tensioning member comprises an elongate member having at least one toothed surface.
16. A system according to claim 1 wherein the tensioning member comprises a helical member.
17. A system according to claim 1 wherein the tensioning member comprises a telescoping member.
18. A system according to claim 1 wherein the tensioning member is capable of being shortened after at least one of the anchors has been implanted.
19. A system according to claim 1 further comprising apparatus for placing the tensioning member under a desired amount of tension.
