Abstract

A control method in a mobile communication system, that includes configuring a discard timer corresponding to a service data unit (SDU) for discarding the SDU according to a value of the discard timer that indicates a time elapsed since the discard timer started at reception of the SDU; when a handover is performed, maintaining the value of the discard timer corresponding to the SDU and taking over the elapsed time of the SDU; and discarding the corresponding SDU when the value of the discard timer reaches a given value.

Claims (22)

1. A control method in a mobile communication system, comprising:

configuring a discard timer corresponding to a service data unit (SDU) for discarding the SDU according to a value of the discard timer that indicates a time elapsed since the discard timer started at reception of the SDU from an upper layer;

when a handover is performed, maintaining the value of the discard timer corresponding to the SDU and taking over the elapsed time of the SDU; and

discarding the corresponding SDU when the value of the discard timer reaches a given value.

2. The control method as defined in claim 1 , wherein the SDU is a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) SDU.

3. The control method as defined in claim 1 , further comprising:

storing the SDU.

4. A radio communication device comprising:

a buffer configured to store service data unit (SDU), the radio communication device discarding the SDU stored in the buffer according to a value of a discard timer that indicates a time elapsed since the discard timer started at reception of the SDU from an upper layer at the radio communication device; and

a controller configured to:

when a handover is performed, maintain a value of a discard timer corresponding to the SDU and take over the elapsed time of the SDU, and

discard the corresponding SDU when the value of the discard timer reaches a given value.

5. The radio communication device as defined in claim 4 , wherein the SDU is a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) SDU.

6. The radio communication device as defined in claim 4 , wherein the radio communication device is a user equipment or a mobile terminal.

7. A base station comprising:

a transmitter configured to transmit control information relating to a discard timer for discarding service data unit (SDU) stored in a radio communication device; and

a controller configured to control the discard timer for the radio communication device by transmitting the control information, the radio communication device including

a buffer configured to store the SDU to be sent to the base station, the radio communication device discarding the SDU stored in the buffer according to a value of a discard timer that indicates a time elapsed since the discard timer started at reception of the SDU from an upper layer at the radio communication device, and

a controller configured to:

when a handover is performed, maintain a value of the discard timer corresponding to the SDU and take over the elapsed time of the SDU, and

discard the corresponding SDU when the value of the discard timer reaches a given value.

8. The base station as defined in claim 7 , wherein the SDU is a Packet Data Convergence Protocol (PDCP) SDU.
