Abstract

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on a computer storage medium, for receiving, from a computer system, a request comprising a phone number, identifying a primary channel and one or more secondary channels based on, at least in part, respective performance data of the primary and secondary channels, sending a first message comprising a first text string via the primary channel to a destination device associated with the phone number, after sending the first message, determining that a conversion event for the message and the primary channel did not occur within a specified time period, and based on the determining, sending a second message comprising the first text string via a particular secondary channel to the destination device.

Claims (52)

1. A method comprising:

receiving, from a computer system, a request comprising a phone number;

identifying a primary channel and one or more secondary channels based on, at least in part, respective rates of conversion events of messages sent via respective channels;

sending a first message comprising a first text string via the primary channel to a destination device associated with the phone number;

after sending the first message, determining that a conversion event for the message and the primary channel did not occur within a specified time period;

based on the determining, sending a second message comprising the first text string via a particular secondary channel to the destination device,

wherein receiving, identifying, sending, and determining are performed by one or more computer processors.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending the computer system a fail message for the request.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein receiving and sending are via one or more application program interfaces.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining a conversion event based upon the first text string comprises:

receiving, from the computer system, a second text string submitted by a user of the destination device; and

determining whether the second text string matches the first text string.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein receiving the second text string further comprises:

receiving, from the computer system, an Internet Protocol (IP) address for the destination device; and

determining whether the IP address is associated with the user.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the conversion event did not occur comprises determining that the primary channel failed to deliver a corresponding message within the specified time period.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein a particular channel is a voice channel and a corresponding message is a voice message comprising a spoken version of the first text string.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein a particular channel is a messaging channel and a corresponding message is a short message service (SMS) message comprising the first text string.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the primary and the secondary channels is further based on respective current connection status of the channels.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying the primary and the secondary channels further comprises:

ranking the channels based on the respective rates of conversion events; and

selecting the highest ranked channels as the identified channels.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying primary and secondary channels is further based on local regulation of respective carriers of the channels.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein identifying primary and secondary channels is further based on a device type of the destination device.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first text string is a one-time password.

14. A system comprising one or more computer processors programmed to perform operations comprising:

receiving, from a computer system, a request comprising a phone number;

identifying a primary channel and one or more secondary channels based on, at least in part, respective rates of conversion events of messages sent via respective channels;

sending a first message comprising a first text string via the primary channel to a destination device associated with the phone number;

after sending the first message, determining that a conversion event for the message and the primary channel did not occur within a specified time period;

based on the determining, sending a second message comprising the first text string via a particular secondary channel to the destination device,

wherein receiving, identifying, sending, and determining are performed by one or more computer processors.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the one or more computer processors are programmed to perform further operations comprising:

sending the computer system a fail message for the request.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein receiving and sending are via one or more application program interfaces.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein determining a conversion event based upon the first text string, the one or more computer processors are programmed to perform operations comprising:

receiving, from the computer system, a second text string submitted by a user of the destination device; and

determining whether the second text string matches the first text string.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein receiving the second text string, the one or more computer processors are programmed to perform further operations comprising:

receiving, from the computer system, an Internet Protocol (IP) address for the destination device; and

determining whether the IP address is associated with the user.

19. The system of claim 14 , wherein determining that the conversion event did not occur, the one or more computer processors are programmed to perform operations comprising determining that the primary channel failed to deliver a corresponding message within the specified time period.

20. The system of claim 14 , wherein a particular channel is a voice channel and a corresponding message is a voice message comprising a spoken version of the first text string.

21. The system of claim 14 , wherein a particular channel is a messaging channel and a corresponding message is a short message service (SMS) message comprising the first text string.

22. The system of claim 14 , wherein identifying the primary and the secondary channels is further based on respective current connection status of the channels.

23. The system of claim 14 , wherein identifying primary and secondary channels, the one or more computer processors are programmed to perform further operations comprising:

ranking the channels based on the respective rates of conversion events; and

selecting the highest ranked channels as the identified channels.

24. The system of claim 14 , wherein identifying primary and secondary channels is further based on local regulation of respective carriers of the channels.

25. The system of claim 14 , wherein identifying primary and secondary channels is further based on a device type of the destination device.

26. The system of claim 14 , wherein the first text string is a one-time password.
