Self centering nock
View Patent ↗A self-centering nock is provided for use in a well-balanced nock-arrow or nock-bolt assembly. The self-centering nock includes compliant projecting protrusions or compliant arms that are substantially rotationally symmetric about a cross section normal to a main axis of the self-centering nock. The compliant projecting protrusions or compliant arms may be received in bolts that have bores of differing internal dimensions.
1. A self-centering nock for partial insertion into a bore of a bolt, the self-centering nock comprising:
an intermediate portion composed of a rigid polymer substrate, wherein a plurality of compliant projecting protrusions composed of an elastic or viscoelastic material are co-molded onto the intermediate portion;
a proximal end contiguous with the intermediate portion; and
a distal end contiguous with the intermediate portion, the distal end including an opening configured to receive the string of at least one of a bow and crossbow.
2. The self-centering nock of claim 1 , wherein an inner diameter of the bore ranges between 0.24 inches to 0.314 inches.
3. The self-centering nock of claim 1 , wherein there are four compliant projecting protrusions co-molded onto the intermediate portion.
4. The self-centering nock of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of compliant projecting protrusions comprise ribs.
5. The self-centering nock of claim 4 , wherein the ribs are compressible.
6. The self-centering nock of claim 1 , wherein the elastic or viscoelastic material comprises a polycarbonate, an elastomer, or a rubber.
