Abstract

A method for processing ads involves traversing an ad view hierarchy to obtain ad view information for a device, providing the ad view information to an ad server, sending, by the device, an ad request to the ad server, receiving, in response to the ad request, an ad. and displaying the ad on the device.

Claims (157)

1. A method for processing ads, comprising:

sending, by a device, an ad request to an ad server;

receiving, by the device and in response to the ad request, a plurality of ad properties, wherein the plurality of ad properties comprise a uniform resource locator (URL) for an image and a plurality of text options, wherein each text option of the plurality of text options comprises a particular text sequence associated with the image, wherein each respective particular text sequence has a particular length different from the respective particular lengths of other particular text sequences of the plurality of text options;

determining, by the device and based on one or more properties of an application currently executing on the device, an ad format comprising one or more aspects of an ad space within a graphical user interface for the application;

selecting, by the device, a text option from the plurality of text options based on the ad format and the respective particular lengths of each of the respective text sequences of the plurality of text options;

adjusting a format characteristic of the selected text option such that the selected text option fits within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application;

sending, by the device, the URL to an image processing server, wherein the URL specifies a resize method for resizing the image and dimensions for a resized image;

receiving, by the device, the resized image from the image processing server;

outputting, by the device and for display, the resized image within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application; and

outputting, by the device and for display, within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application, the selected text option with the adjusted format characteristic.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of ad properties further comprise an advertiser name.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image is associated with a hotspot, wherein the hotspot is a portion of the image, and wherein the resized image comprises the hotspot.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the hotspot is specified by a publisher.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the hotspot is determined by the advertiser.

6. The method of claim 3 , wherein the hotspot is in a central portion of the resized image.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the hotspot is not in a central portion of the image.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the dimensions for the resized image are determined at least, in part, using the ad format.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image processing server is executing within the ad server.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the text option is displayed on the device prior to outputting the resized image for display.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the URL further comprises a location of the image.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the resize method is one selected from a group consisting crop, letterbox, and scale.

13. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

wherein the URL is partially complete, and

wherein the URL is processed to complete the URL by specifying the resize method for resizing the image and dimensions for the resized image.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the format characteristic of the selected text option comprises one or more of:

increasing or decreasing a font size of the selected text option such that the entirety of the text option fills the ad space,

truncating the text option and adding ellipses to the truncated end of the text option,

changing a font type for the text option,

adjusting spacing for the text option, or

summarizing the text option with a new text sequence.

15. A method for processing ads, comprising:

sending, by a device, an ad request to an ad server;

receiving, by the device and in response to the ad request, a plurality of ad properties, wherein the plurality of ad properties comprise an image and a plurality of text options, wherein each text option of the plurality of text options comprises a particular text sequence associated with the image, wherein each respective particular text sequence has a particular length different from the respective particular lengths of other particular text sequences of the plurality of text options;

determining, by the device and based on one or more properties of an application currently executing on the device, an ad format comprising one or more aspects of an ad space within a graphical user interface for the application;

selecting, by the device, a text option from the plurality of text options based on the ad format and the respective particular lengths of each of the respective text sequences of the plurality of text options;

adjusting a format characteristic of the selected text option such that the selected text option fits within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application;

sending, by the device, the image to an image processing server for resizing;

receiving, by the device, the resized image from the image processing server;

outputting, by the device and for display, the resized image within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application; and

outputting, by the device and for display, within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application, the selected text option with the adjusted format characteristic.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein sending the image to the image server comprises providing a resize method for resizing the image and dimensions for the resized image to the image processing server.

17. The method of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of ad properties further comprise an advertiser name.

18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the image is associated with a hotspot, wherein the hotspot is a portion of the image, and wherein the resized image comprises the hotspot.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the hotspot is either specified by a publisher or determined by the advertiser.

20. The method of claim 18 , wherein the hotspot is in a central portion of the resized image.

21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the hotspot is not in a central portion of the image.

22. The method of claim 15 , wherein the dimensions for the resized image are determined at least, in part, using the ad format.

23. The method of claim 15 , wherein the text option is displayed on the device prior to outputting the resized image for display.

24. The method of claim 15 , wherein adjusting the format characteristic of the selected text option comprises one or more of:

increasing or decreasing a font size of the selected text option such that the entirety of the text option fills the ad space,

truncating the text option and adding ellipses to the truncated end of the text option,

changing a font type for the text option,

adjusting spacing for the text option, or

summarizing the text option with a new text sequence.

25. A method for processing ads, comprising:

sending, by a device, an ad request to an ad server;

receiving, by the device and in response to the ad request, a plurality of ad properties, wherein the plurality of ad properties comprise a universal resource locator (URL) for an image and a plurality of text options, wherein each text option of the plurality of text options comprises a particular text sequence associated with the image, wherein each respective particular text sequence has a particular length different from the respective particular lengths of other particular text sequences of the plurality of text options;

determining, by the device and based on one or more properties of an application currently executing on the device, an ad format comprising one or more aspects of an ad space within a graphical user interface for the application;

selecting, by the device, a text option from the plurality of text options based on the ad format and the respective particular lengths of each of the respective text sequences of the plurality of text options;

adjusting a format characteristic of the selected text option such that the selected text option fits within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application;

obtaining, by the device, the image using the URL;

resizing, by the device, the image by the device to obtain a resized image;

outputting, by the device and for display, the resized image within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application; and

outputting, by the device and for display, within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application, the selected text option with the adjusted format characteristic.

26. The method of claim 25 , wherein the image is associated with a hotspot, wherein the hotspot is a portion of the image, and wherein the resized image comprises the hotspot.

27. The method of claim 25 , wherein the dimensions for the resized image are determined at least, in part, using the ad format.

28. The method of claim 25 , wherein the text option is displayed on the device prior to outputting the resized image for display.

29. The method of claim 25 , wherein the URL further comprises a location of the image.

30. The method of claim 25 , wherein the resize method is one selected from a group consisting crop, letterbox, and scale.

31. The method of claim 25 , further comprising:

wherein the URL is partially complete, and

wherein the URL is processed to complete the URL by specifying the resize method for resizing the image and dimensions for the resized image.

32. The method of claim 25 , wherein adjusting the format characteristic of the selected text option comprises one or more of:

increasing or decreasing a font size of the selected text option such that the entirety of the text option fills the ad space,

truncating the text option and adding ellipses to the truncated end of the text option,

changing a font type for the text option,

adjusting spacing for the text option, or

summarizing the text option with a new text sequence.

33. A device comprising:

a computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to:

send an ad request to an ad server;

receive, in response to the ad request, a plurality of ad properties, wherein the plurality of ad properties comprises a universal resource locator (URL) for an image and a plurality of text options, wherein each text option of the plurality of text options comprises a particular text sequence associated with the image, wherein each respective particular text sequence has a particular length different from the respective particular lengths of other particular text sequences of the plurality of text options;

determine, based on one or more properties of an application currently executing on the device, an ad format comprising one or more aspects of an ad space within a graphical user interface for the application;

select a text option from the plurality of text options based on the ad format and the respective particular lengths of each of the respective text sequences of the plurality of text options;

adjust a format characteristic of the selected text option such that the selected text option fits within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application;

send the URL to an image processing server, wherein the URL specifies a resize method for resizing the image and dimensions for a resized image;

receive the resized image from the image processing server;

output, for display, the resized image within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application; and

output, for display, within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application, the selected text option with the adjusted format characteristic.

34. The device of claim 33 , wherein the image is associated with a hotspot, wherein the hotspot is a portion of the image, and wherein the resized image comprises the hotspot.

35. The device of claim 33 , wherein the dimensions for the resized image are determined at least, in part, using the ad format.

36. The device of claim 33 , wherein the text option is displayed on the device prior to outputting the resized image for display.

37. The device of claim 33 , wherein the instructions that cause the one or more processors to adjust the format characteristic of the selected text option comprise instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform an action comprising one or more of:

increasing or decreasing a font size of the selected text option such that the entirety of the text option fills the ad space,

truncating the text option and adding ellipses to the truncated end of the text option,

changing a font type for the text option,

adjusting spacing for the text option, or

summarizing the text option with a new text sequence.

38. A device comprising:

a computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to:

send an ad request to an ad server;

receive, in response to the ad request, a plurality of ad properties, wherein the plurality of ad properties comprises an image and a plurality of text options, wherein each text option of the plurality of text options comprises a particular text sequence associated with the image, wherein each respective particular text sequence has a particular length different from the respective particular lengths of other particular text sequences of the plurality of text options;

determine, based on one or more properties of an application currently executing on the device, an ad format comprising one or more aspects of an ad space within a graphical user interface for the application;

select a text option from the plurality of text options based on the ad format and the respective particular lengths of each of the respective text sequences of the plurality of text options;

adjust a format characteristic of the selected text option such that the selected text option fits within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application;

send the image to an image processing server for resizing;

receive the resized image from the image processing server;

output, for display, the resized image on the device within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application; and

output, for display, within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application, the selected text option with the adjusted format characteristic.

39. The device of claim 38 , wherein the image is associated with a hotspot, wherein the hotspot is a portion of the image, and wherein the resized image comprises the hotspot.

40. The device of claim 38 , wherein the dimensions for the resized image are determined at least, in part, using the ad format.

41. The device of claim 38 , wherein the text option is displayed on the device prior to outputting the resized image for display.

42. The device of claim 38 , wherein the instructions that cause the one or more processors to adjust the format characteristic of the selected text option comprise instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform an action comprising one or more of:

increasing or decreasing a font size of the selected text option such that the entirety of the text option fills the ad space,

truncating the text option and adding ellipses to the truncated end of the text option,

changing a font type for the text option,

adjusting spacing for the text option, or

summarizing the text option with a new text sequence.

43. A device comprising:

a computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to:

send an ad request to an ad server;

receive, in response to the ad request, a plurality of ad properties, wherein the plurality of ad properties comprises a universal resource locator (URL) for an image and a plurality of text options, wherein each text option of the plurality of text options comprises a particular text sequence associated with the image, wherein each respective particular text sequence has a particular length different from the respective particular lengths of other particular text sequences of the plurality of text options;

determine, based on one or more properties of an application currently executing on the device, an ad format comprising one or more aspects of an ad space within a graphical user interface for the application;

select a text option from the plurality of text options based on the ad format and the respective particular lengths of each of the respective text sequences of the plurality of text options;

adjust a format characteristic of the selected text option such that the selected text option fits within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application;

obtain the image using the URL;

resize the image by the device to obtain a resized image;

output, for display, the resized image within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application; and

output, for display, within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application, the selected text option with the adjusted format characteristic.

44. The device of claim 43 , wherein the image is associated with a hotspot, wherein the hotspot is a portion of the image, and wherein the resized image comprises the hotspot.

45. The device of claim 43 , wherein the dimensions for the resized image are determined at least, in part, using the ad format.

46. The device of claim 43 , wherein the text option is displayed on the device prior to outputting the resized image for display.

47. The device of claim 43 , wherein the instructions that cause the one or more processors to adjust the format characteristic of the selected text option comprise instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform an action comprising one or more of:

increasing or decreasing a font size of the selected text option such that the entirety of the text option fills the ad space,

truncating the text option and adding ellipses to the truncated end of the text option,

changing a font type for the text option,

adjusting spacing for the text option, or

summarizing the text option with a new text sequence.

48. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:

send an ad request to an ad server;

receive, in response to the ad request, a plurality of ad properties, wherein the plurality of ad properties comprise a uniform resource locator (URL) for an image and a plurality of text options, wherein each text option of the plurality of text options comprises a particular text sequence associated with the image, wherein each respective particular text sequence has a particular length different from the respective particular lengths of other particular text sequences of the plurality of text options;

determine, based on one or more properties of an application currently executing on the device, an ad format comprising one or more aspects of an ad space within a graphical user interface for the application;

select a text option from the plurality of text options based on the ad format and the respective particular lengths of each of the respective text sequences of the plurality of text options;

adjust a format characteristic of the selected text option such that the selected text option fits within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application;

send the URL to an image processing server, wherein the URL specifies a resize method for resizing the image and dimensions for a resized image;

receive the resized image from the image processing server;

output, for display, the resized image within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application; and

output, for display, within the ad space in the graphical user interface for the application, the selected text option with the adjusted format characteristic.

49. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 48 , wherein the image is associated with a hotspot, wherein the hotspot is a portion of the image, and wherein the resized image comprises the hotspot.

50. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 48 , wherein the dimensions for the resized image are determined at least, in part, using the ad format.

51. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 48 , wherein the text option is displayed on the device prior to outputting the resized image for display.

52. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 48 , wherein the instructions that cause the one or more processors to adjust the format characteristic of the selected text option comprise instructions that, when executed, cause the one or more processors to perform an action comprising one or more of:

increasing or decreasing a font size of the selected text option such that the entirety of the text option fills the ad space,

truncating the text option and adding ellipses to the truncated end of the text option,

changing a font type for the text option,

adjusting spacing for the text option, or

summarizing the text option with a new text sequence.
