Abstract

A header lift assembly for an agricultural harvester includes a lift cylinder and a lock assembly. The lift cylinder includes a sleeve and a piston, and the piston is configured to move in an axial direction relative to the sleeve. The lock assembly is coupled to the lift cylinder and is configured to automatically transition to a first locking position upon extension of the piston in the axial direction to a locking distance from the sleeve. The first locking position is configured to block retraction of the piston in the axial direction beyond a first distance from the sleeve. The lock assembly is also configured to automatically disengage from the first locking position to a unlocked position that facilitates retraction of the piston beyond the first distance upon extension of the piston to an unlocking distance.

Claims (6)

1. A header lift assembly for an agricultural harvester, comprising:

a cylinder comprising a sleeve and a piston, wherein the piston is configured to move in an axial direction relative to the sleeve; and

a lock assembly coupled between the sleeve and piston of the cylinder comprising a pin and a pivotally mounted guide plate comprising a pathway, the pathway is configured to accommodate the pin for movement therein, wherein the geometry of the pathway is shaped and configured to convert axial motion of the piston to rotational movement of the guide plate as the cylinder is extended and retracted, the pathway configured to automatically move to engage in a locking region with the pin after extension of the piston in the axial direction to a locking distance from the sleeve when a header is raised to a lock height, wherein the locking region is configured to maintain the header at a maintenance height, and the pathway is aligned and configured to automatically disengage the pin from the locking region when the piston is extended from the cylinder and the header is raised from the maintenance height to an unlocking height;

wherein the pathway comprises an operating pathway and a locking pathway branching from the operating pathway, the locking pathway having at least one region and two connections to the operating pathway, wherein position of a first one of the connections of the operating pathway to the locking pathway corresponds to the locking distance.

2. The header lift assembly of claim 1 , wherein the geometry of the locking pathway is shaped and configured to automatically disengage from the locking region when the header is raised by extension of cylinder from the maintenance height to an unlocking height, wherein the lock height is greater than the maintenance height and the unlocking height, and the unlocking height is greater than the maintenance height with respect to a ground surface.

3. The header lift assembly of claim 2 , wherein the locking region corresponds to engagement of the pin within a branch of the locking pathway.
