Abstract

Disclosed herein are embodiments of a system and method for the dynamic provisioning of static content. In one embodiment, information presented on a content delivery system can be refreshed based on information published on a content management system. One embodiment can interface the content delivery system and the content management system at the page level. More specifically, content dependencies across pages employing the same content or portion(s) thereof can be tracked in a timely, accurate manner. Upon receiving a notification of a change to the content or a portion thereof from the content management system, a content generation system may operate to determine, based on the dependencies, what pages are affected by the change and, based on the determination, dynamically regenerate any and all affected pages. The regenerated pages may then be stored and/or pushed to the web tier for delivery to end users.

Claims (50)

1. A method for dynamically provisioning static content, comprising:

receiving from a client device a request for a static page at a content delivery system embodied on non-transitory computer memory;

responsive to the request, the content delivery system searching a server cache for a previously generated static page which matches or which most closely matches the requested static page, the previously generated static page stored in the server cache in conjunction with one or more caching parameters used in previously generating the static page and associated with parameters received in the request for the static page from the client device, wherein the search of the server cache is conducted by comparing one or more parameters of the received request to the caching parameters stored in the server cache with the previously generated static page;

determining, by the content delivery system, using data relating to the one or more caching parameters stored in the cache in conjunction with the previously generated static page, a change to a piece of content has occurred, the data representing a notification from a content management system that the change to the piece of content has occurred;

based on a result of the searching, the content delivery system communicating the request, over a network, to a content generator embodied on non-transitory computer memory;

responsive to the request, the content generator dynamically re-generating at least one static page, including the requested static page, to account for the change to the piece of content contained in or referenced by the requested static page, the piece of content managed by the content management system embodied on non-transitory computer memory, wherein the at least one regenerated static page includes only pages that are affected by the change to the piece of content;

the content generator communicating the at least one dynamically regenerated static page over the network to the content delivery system; and

the content delivery system storing the at least one dynamically regenerated static page in the server cache and, responsive to the request from the client device, delivering the requested static page that has been dynamically re-generated to the client device.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

the content management system determining, based on page dependencies, what static pages are affected by the change to the piece of content; and

the content generator regenerating only the static pages that are determined by the content management system as being affected by the change to the piece of content.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

the content delivery system delivering the at least one dynamically regenerated static page to the client device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the change to the piece of content is detected by a content producing device associated with a user authorized to work with the piece of content.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the detecting is performed by a listener embedded in the content producing device.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the pages that are affected by the change to the piece of content have same or different dependencies on the piece of content.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein dynamically re-generating the at least one static page further comprises reassembling or regenerating the at least one static page from one or more templates based on a set of permutations of a plurality of variables associated therewith.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of variables include Channel, Locale, and Display format.

9. A computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium including computer program instructions translatable by at least one processor for:

receiving from a client device a request for a static page;

responsive to the request, searching a server cache for a previously generated static page which matches or which most closely matches the requested static page, the previously generated static page stored in the server cache in conjunction with one or more caching parameters used in previously generating the static page and associated with parameters received in the request for the static page from the client device, wherein the search of the server cache is conducted by comparing one or more parameters of the received request to the caching parameters stored in the server cache with the previously generated static page;

determining, using data relating to the one or more caching parameters stored in the cache in conjunction with the previously generated static page, a change to a piece of content has occurred, the data representing a notification from a content management system that the change to the piece of content has occurred;

based on a result of the searching, communicating the request over a network to a content generator embodied on non-transitory computer memory, wherein, responsive to the request, the content generator dynamically re-generates at least one static page, including the requested static page, to account for the change to the piece of content contained in or referenced by the requested static page, the piece of content managed by the content management system embodied on non-transitory computer memory, wherein the at least one regenerated static page includes only pages that are affected by the change to the piece of content;

receiving over the network from the content generator the at least one dynamically regenerated static page; and

storing the at least one dynamically regenerated static page in the server cache and, responsive to the request from the client device, delivering the requested static page that has been dynamically re-generated to the client device.

The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium further includes computer program instructions translatable by the at least one processor for determining, based on page dependencies, what static pages are affected by the change to the piece of content, wherein the content generator regenerates only the static pages that are determined as being affected by the change to the piece of content.

11. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the at least one non-transitory computer-readable medium further includes computer program instructions translatable by the at least one processor for delivering the at least one dynamically regenerated static page to the client device.

12. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the change to the piece of content is detected by a content producing device associated with a user authorized to work with the piece of content.

13. The computer program product of claim 12 , wherein the detecting is performed by a listener embedded in the content producing device.

14. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein the pages that are affected by the change to the piece of content have same or different dependencies on the piece of content.

15. The computer program product of claim 9 , wherein dynamically re-generating the at least one static page further comprises reassembling or regenerating the at least one static page from one or more templates based on a set of permutations of a plurality of variables associated therewith.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the plurality of variables include Channel, Locale, and Display format.

17. A system for dynamically provisioning static content, comprising:

a content delivery system embodied on non-transitory computer memory for:

receiving from a client device a request for a static page;

responsive to the request, searching a server cache for a previously generated static page which matches or which most closely matches the requested static page, the previously generated static page stored in the server cache in conjunction with one or more caching parameters used in previously generating the static page and associated with parameters received in the request for the static page from the client device, wherein the search of the server cache is conducted by comparing one or more parameters of the received request to the caching parameters stored in the server cache with the previously generated static page;

determining, using data relating to the one or more caching parameters stored in the cache in conjunction with the previously generated static page, a change to a piece of content has occurred, the data representing a notification from a content management system that the change to the piece of content has occurred; and

based on a result of the searching, communicating the request over the network to a content generator;

the content generator embodied on non-transitory computer memory for:

responsive to the request, dynamically re-generating at least one static page, including the requested static page, to account for the change to the piece of content contained in or referenced by the requested static page, wherein the at least one regenerated static page includes only pages that are affected by the change to the piece of content; and

the content management system embodied on non-transitory computer memory for:

managing the piece of content; and

determining, based on page dependencies, what static pages are affected by the change to the piece of content;

wherein the content delivery system is further operable to perform:

receiving the at least one dynamically regenerated static page over the network from the content generator;

storing the at least one dynamically regenerated static page in the server cache; and

responsive to the request from the client device, delivering the requested static page that has been dynamically re-generated to the client device.

18. The system of claim 17 , further comprising a caching framework including the server cache for storing the at least one dynamically regenerated static page.

The system of claim 17 , wherein the client device resides in a first network, wherein the content generator and the content management system reside in a second network, and wherein the content delivery system is communicatively connected to the client device in the first network and to the content generator and the content management system in the second network.

20. The system of claim 19 , further comprising a plurality of devices in the second network communicatively connected to the content management system, wherein each device of the plurality of devices is capable of causing the change to the piece of content contained in or referenced by the requested static page.
